Three South Korean nationals are awaiting trial in Singapore after being arrested late last month on suspicion of working as drug couriers.....

the death penalty is mandatory ....

Korean nationals have been arrested and criminally charged in various countries in growing numbers in recent years ......

Aren't you quoting it from the same news resource people always complain about on here? Same same, no?

Yes - but if you look over my history of comments/threads for the last 6 years - you might notice that I am not one of those people (I have never complained about the Korean Herald)...

would it help you if I quoted instead from the "Singapore Government" newsroom...

In an operation lasting more than 60 hours, a total of ............. 3 South Koreans were arrested with roles ranging from drug couriers to drug associates and drug coordinators. Approximately 2kg of heroin no. 4 was seized.

On 29 August 2009, the 3 South Koreans flew into Singapore from South Korea and checked into a hotel in the Bugis area. ...................... On 30 August 2009, the 3 South Koreans took a cab to Changi Airport.......

........... All were arrested in Changi Airport Terminal 3 at around 0520 hours on 30 August 2009.

The 3 South Korean drug couriers were aged between 40 to 52 years old

Obviously the Korea media did "hush" this up for a while - because it happened 3 weeks ago....

I'd feel sorry for the poor blokes who are gonna get the drop more than trying to prove some kind of point. But then again I watched the film Return to paradise and it left it's mark on me.

Yeah, me too. Watch "Locked Up Abroad" on National Geographic. I used to be 100% certain I'd never smuggle anything illegal into another country. Now, I'm around 1000% certain.

They even had a "S.Korea" episode. It involved an American coming to teach ESL in Korea... Laughing

The media will probably mention it so as to appear responsible, but then ignore it after that. And yes, they've waited three weeks to explore the possibility of just not mentioning it.

Street heroin is classified numerically from 1-4.
Heroin No.4 is often called "new China white".

Street heroin generally is only 25-50% pure.
"Heroin No. 4", is up to 80% pure.

(Heroin no. 4 is relatively uncommon).

1 kg of Heroin no. 4 can be purchased in Afghanistan for USD$4,000 and sold in the USA for USD$70,000 dollars or in Australia (where these guys were going) for AUD$80,000.

These guys had 2kg of Heroin no.4 to be sold in Australia for AUD$160,000 ~

which is a small sum of money for them to risk their lives over.

Risking their lives over small sums of money is what many people here do best. Just ask the scooter delivery guys getting 4,000 won an hour.

Just wondering (I couldn't see it in the article) what their destination was?

Were they schedule to fly back to Korea or another destination?

And any idea who were the big wigs?

If the drugs were coming back to Korea who could be the target market? Koreans or immigrants of various shapes and color?

Or have they done some market research and feel that Korea is an untapped market and that Korea is ready to start using drugs such as H on a big scale?

A lot of questions I know but I think some questions that are interesting to ask but not answered.

Racist Media. Boycott National Geographic.

I can think of a couple of reasons why you'd might say that... Is one of 'em in how NatGeo portrays inmates from other countries as lowlife scumbag criminals? Or is it because every subject/victim of every episode is invariably a citizen of an English speaking country? Laughing

I dunno. It never occurred to me that NatGeo was racist media. I probably overlooked it while I was being entertained. lol

The BIG guys behind it were Nepalese guys - and I actually think the Nepalese guys either made the stuff themselves or purchased it in India - as 1kg of Heroine no.4 also sells for $4,000 in India.

How the Nepalese guys got it to Singapore? who knows? probably fishing boat.

But from Singapore the 3-Korean-drug-mules were supposed to fly to Australia.

Good on the Singapore police!! Kept 2 kgs of no.4 (80% pure heroine OFF the Australian streets)..

+got rid of 6 Nepalese drug-gangsters + 3 unemployed Korean adjossi's.
