I've had my D2 for about a year, and it has worked great for me. Makes me happy that my IPod finally died a year ago. So now I am thinking about upgrading to the Cowon S9. I see that they play more video formats, meaning no need to do the tedious conversion required to put videos on the D2 (but then D2 isn't really marketed as a video player).

There is one other problem I have about the D2 and I wonder if the D9 has it better. The D2 has no adjustment for "screen size", so if you are watching a movie (which are all wide screen) then all characters will be thin and tall on the D2's 320 x 240 screen. (Jet Video Converter has some Resize option, but for me it never has any effect on the output).

A new wide screen TV will usually have 3 options:
wide screen: for movies
4:3 screen: for TV shows in "old" format
magnify: for shows that have been converted between wide and old style so many time they end up being in a small box in the middle of the screen.

Does the D9 have these screen size options? Or do you end up watching shows with people with elongated or smushed faces?

The S9 has a 16:9 ratio screen. Standard widescreen ratio.

All modern movies and TV shows will look natural. Old TV ratio of 4:3 will have black bars on either side. But you can do the stretch function which doesn't look too weird.
