I've had my Birks for 7 or 8 years and there is like no tread left on them almost- is there somewhere in Seoul I can get them fixed? They're perfect besides that.

Check with some of the shoe repair guys on the side of the road. They may be able to glue something on.

Or better yet, close to Apkujeong Station, there is a shoe repair store, but it'll cost you some money.

I burn through a pair of Birks every six months. they used to be cheap here at 45 bucks but now they are like 90 which is still cheaper than Canada. Never heard of a re-tread shop.

There is an after service center here. What they do is actually order your replacement parts/soles from somewhere out of the country. You can either do half the sole, or the whole thing.

However, in order to get this service (with a lofty price), you must present the receipt and tag from when you bought the shoes. I'm pretty sure they want a receipt from a Korean dept store. My wife verified this a few months ago. I can get you the contact info if you have those items and you still want to have it done. Takes a month or so to get them back.

** the answer to your question is: They want the receipt and tag because Korea is full of fakes**

You can get them for 40 bucks these days (end of summer sale stock), but size could be an issue if you have gargantuan feet.
