Anyone else told not to leave Korea for chusok but are going anyway?
I work for a public school, and my principal said I was not allowed to leave Korea because he didnt want me to have a week off for quarantine.
Hypothetically if I went anyway -
What is the liklihood of getting caught? How can it happen? and what are some things I can do so that my school do not find out? |

I am curious about this too.
I haven't been told by the school personally that we can't go anywhere, but a Korean teacher did tell one of the other foreign teachers. (This k-teacher has since left the school.)
I am curious, on coming back into the country, will you then be subject to quarantine by immigration??? Or can I just re-enter and not have anyone at the school know about it. If I'm going to be 'busted' upon returning by immi, than I may have to re-think this whole thing.
btw, going to Taipei, don't know if that counts for anything as far as the quarantine rules or not. |

This really gets on my nerves. How is it that teachers are being treated so much like kids that some people have to sneak out of the country?
My school asked us not to travel. I wasn't going to go anywhere anyway, but it still bothers me.
I work at a school (not a hagwon), and most of my coworkers (and me too) have teaching certification and experience. If you want professional teachers to stay more than a year, you have to treat them like professional teachers.
I think it's still wrong even if people are at hagwons and have no experience (they're hiring you, so they shouldn't treat you as kids or servants, they should expect you to do the job they hired you for and that's it), but it's even worse when you specifically want professionals and then treat them like kids.

sorry. I'm usually pretty positive about Korea (if I didn't like it, I wouldn't be here), but that's one thing that annoys me. |

Nope, I already traveled once while this "quarantine" was in effect with a with a native-Korean teacher.
What are they going to do, keep *every* person who comes into Incheon International in a special quarantine location for two weeks? That would be impossible/insane. It's all up to the school, and, if you don't tell the school, you should be good to go (as many native-Korean teachers I know have opted to do). |

I live in a town with about 40 other foreigners- none of us were told we couldn't travel. FYI your principle can't demand that you not travel out of the country. They can to native Korean Teachers- but not the foreign teachers. Have fun! |

I also traveled to Taipei with a native Korean teacher during this quarantine crap. No worries for either of us. |
