I know that you have technically have 90 days to complete your medical check for your ARC card. My question is for those in hagowns, since I get the feel that the public schools do it rather immediately from what I've read.
How long after arriving in the country did you generally do your health check? Did the school make an appointment for you or were you left to complete it on your own? And since the information is so wildly varying online, can anyone that has taken it recently relay the truth about what tests for what specific things are done? |

You have 90 days to get your ARC from Immigration. This is the rule for all foreign visitors who stay in Korea more than 90 days. It is not just for E2 teachers.
The local Education office has a different rule. You must be registered as a teacher with a copy of your diploma, sometimes your transcripts and a copy of your ARC within 10 days of your first day of teaching.
So, you have to get your medical check and get your ARC in time to be registered in 10 days, or you will not be a legal teacher in Korea. If you are late, the fines for this will probably be imposed on your school, if anyone ever finds out. |

Most people do it within the first month, because there are some things that are impossible/harder to do without an ARC card. Usually there aren't appointments, you just show up, just don't forget to fast for 8 hours before you go. My school told me they would bring me like 5 days after I arrived in country, but I had already done it the day before on my own. Some schools don't really care and probably wouldn't help unless you offered or unless you were getting to the 90 day mark. The tests all depend on where you go. The only things that are required are the drug tests, the std test, and the tb test. Those are the pee test, the blood test, and the x-ray. Now a lot of places do a complete workout, but the only results that immigration is worried about are the ones I mentioned. The full work up includes dental, blood pressure, cholesterol, vision, eyes, hearing, etc. Pretty much the same price so might as well have everything done. Just go to the nearest hospital and you can get it done. |
