Does anybody know how to get rid of this so-called anti-virus program that acts like a virus itself? Our university (like my last one) installed it on all computers; it's totally useless for its intended purpose, so I use my own. Whenever you uninstall it (using either the included uninstall program or from the Windows programs in Settings), it just reinstalls itself. If I even delete its folders and all mention in the registry, it still comes back. Any ideas? |

Our university used to have exactly the same thing. What I found was that it is linked to a certain "managing program" (can't remember what it was called!) that was installed when using internet explorer (may be the same in your school?) You have to uninstall that 'managing program'. If you give us a screen shot of your install/unistall menu, I think I could rememberr what it was.
Then, never use internet explorer; it doesn't come back. Later that managing program also ended up being associated with GOM player as well. So I stopped using that too.
If you really can't stand it, delete it and only use firefox/safari/opera as browsers. Same with GOM player. Use an alternative, perhaps VLC or KM player? If other Korean teachers use your computer, you might be screwed. Delete all the IE shortcuts and menu items so they can't find it.
Alternatively, you could wipe windows completely and use linux. Depends on how dependent your are on windows programs...
To be honest, in the end I gave up and just let the stupid thing stay there. I had to use IE occasionally and there was no work around. |

Sounds like an intrenched rootkit issue.
You probably will never be able to get rid of it without totally reinstalling windows.
You could download and run a free trial of Kaspersky from www.kaspersky.com , but some rootkits are so smart that they won't even allow you to visit the sites of antivirus companies. You'll have to make sure the windows system restore feature is turned off before you try to clean anything, or you'll just keep getting the virus/rootkit back. |

Try using a program called Revo Uninstaller. Not only does it remove the program, it searches your entire computer for any possible rootkits, sub folders etc that most programs leave behind. Find it free on download.com |

Ahnlabs.
Go to "run" in the start menu and type "msconfig" without the quotes. Any instance of that name in the "startup" tab, uncheck.
Click "ok" and close this, but don't reboot yet...just leave that window hanging.
Go to "run" again and type "services.msc" in this window, double click any instance of the name again and select "disable" from the drop-down menu. Close this window.
Now reboot. This should kill it. A darkened, lifeless icon in the tray...
You don't want to uninstall it; as you said, it will just return. |
