I'm pumped!

What should I do with him though?

Also, tell tales of parents visiting K.

My mother came when my wife and I had a baby. We took her to the tourist places in and around Seoul. We also took her for quite a few drives. Being older and from Florida, she doesn't get to see too many mountains. She loved driving around. Especially along the coast.

We also didn't have her try all of the foods. We gave her what we new she would like (samgyeopsal, bulgogi, samgyetang, kalbitang, and a few other dishes).

She left with nothing but positive things to say about Korea and a love of Korean food.

My family visiting me in Korea is literally my worst nightmare. I will do everything in my power to make sure it never, ever happens.

New York was bad enough. I'm still recovering.

Try a traditional village. I took my mother there and she thought it was pretty cool. My wife explained the traditional things that are part of the Kroean culture and she enjoyed it. There are many buses that go out there if you don't have a car. Also try things around soul as it is not a busy during the holiday break as many people are heading south during this time of year for the holiday.

Let us know how it went.

My parents will come eventually. I don't mind.

But its going to be really hard convincing my dad that he can't go everywhere with his shirt off. He never wears shirts back home. Nobody does. I'm from a trailer park.

The man has a big gut.

This is a repetitive question but can anyone recommend some nice resturants? $20-40 per person range (anything cheaper is fine too of course.)

I never eat anywhere that costs more than $10 but I know he will be up for some nicer places.

my parents loved it here, they stayed in seoul and i came into see them after work. they loved all the food especially the street food. i was able to take some days off of work and took them to suwon(for the folk village and hwaseong fortress) and also the DMZ. Since my brother was with them I took him out for some Korean nightlife. My parents have said if they get the chance they would come back. If you have any questions shoot me a message.

You may be joking, but this isn't far off from my situation. I love my family with all of my big, proud heart. However, their brand of refined social sensibilities can, at times, leave something to be desired.

I don't think they could make it through a full week without one of the older male relatives making "ching chong" noises at least once in public. Oh god.

I'm not joking. I wish I was! Haha. I'll tell him that he can't do that but if he is by himself and goes out without the rest of us knowing--to the store or something like that--then I know for a fact that he's going to not wear a shirt. He just can't comprehend having to wear one.

My parents won't do the whole "ching-chong" thing though, but most people from back home would!

My parents enjoyed touring Seoul and seeing all the typical attractions. They enjoyed just walking around my small city taking it in as well. I second the suggestion for one of the folk villages, the one outside of Yongin is really good and has some excellent shows. My parents went on a weekend trip to Sokcho and enjoyed the scenery around that area. They left with nothing but good things to say about Korea, well except Soju they didn't appreciate it's delights as much as I do.

The things you now accept as normal will be unusual and very interesting to them.
Even a walk round a town market can be a major eye-opener for them.
We took a few days to visit Jeju, they still talk about that.
So many foods we never tried though, and many places we couldn't fit in. The DMZ was off-limits then, but it would've been another good trip.

My Dad has never traveled outside of North America, by the way.

Should be fun.

Well, for starters, my grandmother got into a screaming match with some huge crazy man in Washington Square park after he made a comment about all Texans being George W Bush supporters upon seeing my little cousin's Longhorns t shirt. I believe the most choice bit from that dialogue was my grandmother shouting, "Honey, the best thing that ever happened for Texas was when Bush became president and got the *beep* out of our state!" And my grandmother never *beep*s.
