Have you ever been switched over?

Did your government pension get transferred?

Are you able to access the money if you leave?

Does your university start matching it right away, or is it after a few years?

Is your private pensions better than the government one?

Do you still get severance pay?

I've been on both. I feel gov't is better. At least in the short-term. With private pension, you have to wait as long as 5 years (employed through same pension program) to be fully vested and get 100% back of what the school paid in. With the national plan, I believe you get 100% matched from year 1.
