Hi everybody,

I recently got hooked up with KT Megapass. The download speed is fine (8M), but the upload speed is crap (0.05M) if i'm lucky. Most times i cant even attach a photo to an email, and my speedtest keeps failing to register an upload speed.

Before i tell my school to contact KT, i was wondering if anyone had a similar problem and found a quick way to solve it.

Have you checked it with http://www.speedtest.net/

Did you check your firewall settings?

It's also possible that your uploading to a server that is across the globe with a weak connection somewhere in between.

But I don't seem to have any uploading problems like the ones your having, and I'm with KT.

Hi Swigs,

Yes, i've tested the speed on that 'speedtest.net' website. 99% of the time the test fails to register for the uploading. A few times it did work and the speeds were crap...only 0.05MB upload. Only one time a good upload speed was registered (0.5MB).

I've checked my firewall settings and can't see anthing that would be affecting the uploading. Of course, just cos i can't detect something doesnt mean there isn't a problem on my end. I guess i'll try a few more times myself before i tell my school. Thanks.

I'm with KT in Seoul, and according to the speedtest a second ago my upload is .28 just to give you a reference.

Best of luck.

I got the same problem with Powercomm. I got about 90kB/s upload with 7MB/s down. They say it's not possible to increase upload.
I live in a part of town with no new apartment buildings (Incheon), but someone I know does and he gets several MBs up. I guess it's because I use cable and new apartments use fiber optics.

Yes, my building's wiring and age may have something to do with it.

It was built in 1996 i believe, so that could be a factor.

It sounds like you have signed up for the ADSL plan which has a rated upload of 640k. So if that is the case, the speeds you are experiencing are normal for your plan.

FTTH방식 50M / 50M
VDSL방식 50M / 10M
ADSL방식 8M / 640K

I found the above on the KT site. Sorry I couldn't link it properly as the site appears to be all flash and I couldn't provide a direct link. When I signed up for my plan I made sure that I the gave me the VDSL plan, NOT the ADSL. Maybe all you need to do is get your Co-Teacher to change the plan.

good luck

Some Villas are simply not wired to handle anything other than the basic ADSL. My villa doesn't have it.

I CAN upgrade, but that would require KT to send a fiber line directly off the telephone pole, drill a hole through the wall, and into the modem.

Has anyone had experience using the FTTH service by KT in the HaeBongChon area? I ask because I'm currently with C&M but I'm getting really pissed off on how slow the speeds are. I had a guy came look at it last month, and it was suddenly 100M download speeds, but 2 weeks after he checked it, it went back down to 20M. Ping time is also very horrible, I can't even enjoy playing on XBOX Live any more because of horrible ping times.

so yeah, if anyone has used the FTTH service in HBC, please let me know how it is. I also notice they offer a FTTH of 100M/100M for a bit less than 40,000 won/month.

Just got the KT FTTH 100/100 installed today. Very satisfied. Phew, C&M sure did suck and i'm glad i got out of that. C&M made me feel like I was using a 28.8 kps modem.

when I did speed check, it averaged out to about 89M/sec both ways.

Who can I contact to get the KT service? I just moved to the HBC area and haven't had internet hooked up yet. What are the price on their cable/internet packages?
