I've got a co-worker surfing porn on my primary computer while I work (not saying whether it's a foreigner or a Korean). It's a private office, and I suspect the story gets worse.

Complaints have been made, and it seems like he has switched from using the internet to file sharing programs, but not stopped. The timespan is most certainly more than a few minutes every day.

Its OBVIOUSLY a foreign teacher! I highly doubt its one of the korean female co teachers searching for hairy asian amateurs etc.

Hopefully he'll get fired. Maybe the school hasn't taken any action because they'd then have to go through all the trouble of hiring a new employee.

Why mask whether he's a foreigner or not? I don't see the point in that. This isn't the English Spectrum message board.

You better do something before you get the blame for being the porn surfer. This goes double if it is a Korean coworker.

I was in my local Office of Education one time, main office room with a couple dozen desk jockeys, & damned if one of them didnt have a video of a naked couple actively humping on his computer (with a file folder held up that he pretended to read, semi-disguising it). Sheesh.

In the OP's situation, I'd definitely confront the offender strongly & clean up the browsing history as much as possible. Thats just madness & the OP stands to suffer major harm.

Well, I got administration to talk to him. Next day, he switched from the internet to file sharing. Didn't seem like much of an improvement to me.

I personally wouldn't care as long as he doesn't get any viruses and isn't using a computer that is used in lessons

I'd just say to him

'Hey can you use your home computer for porn please. I have to use this computer too and don't like the nasy surprises and don;t want the boss to think it's me, no offense...'

If he's in anyway sane and sensible he'll be so emmbarrased that he'll mutter some lame excuse about his friends sending it to him as a joke and that he'l get them to stop doing it and then never use the office computer for work again...

I wanted an unbiased poll, so disclosed minimal information. Now, I'll further disclose that the guy is Korean and that he doesn't speak much English.

My solution was to put internet monitoring software on the computer and tell management about it (I assume that they told him, but perhaps he is unaware). If he's going to keep it up (which is a reasonable bet), then I'm going to very aggressively pursue his dismissal. And I'll have a hard copy logs to back it up.

Although, I probably won't know the score for two weeks.

teacherinseoul, I would definitely pursue it.

The thing is...I have no problem with porn, but how completely unprofessional is it to download it at work, especially when you're a teacher?!?! Maybe he can't do it at home because his wife would find out or something.

But yeah, the fact that it's on a shared computer, and that he's Korean (so they'd be more likely to blame you), I would go after it very strongly. Personally I find it extremely offensive that he seems to have no esteem for you or for his job.

I'd warn him first.

Tell him that if he doesn't stop you will have to take action. Because it's unprofessional and potentially damaging to the school.

Tell him seriously but kindly. And do it face to face. It's confrontational but OP I'm assuming you're a man, so being blunt and upfront you can do. If neither of you speak well enough to communicate, you could probably get someone to write you a letter in Korean. I'd also let him know it's you. Show him that foreigners are professional too, we know what's right and wrong.

Good luck.

worst comes to worst, make it impossible for him to do so. besides monitoring software for websurfing you can download other software that blocks certain ports which will make his filesharing programs impossible to use. may be an idea. or just download a net monitoring program that cuts internet use completely and refuse to remove it until he quits his ways. if he complains, notify the higher ups that he has continued to download porn at work. kind of passive aggressive, but if nothing else is working......

Ask the school to setup 2 separate accounts for the computer. You with your own password and the other teacher with theirs.

Make sure you always log off when not using the computer. Any bad surfing or downloading will be logged as the other user.

change your computer to be password protected on bootup and on screen saver. and disable the guest account so nobody can log in or use the computer when you're not around. poof! No porn!
