|
... or they won't pay for my flight! They say this is one of the "rules". Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesnt' the E2 visa let us stay for ten days after the contract ends?
My contract ends on the 20th, and I reserved a flight for the 25th. From what I can tell there's nothing wrong with this. I can change it if I have to, but I don't want to. Why are they inventing rules about what they do and don't have to pay me? This is public school for God's sake.
Advice, please. |

from my understanding, the date on your ARC is the last date on which you can be inthe country, meaning that if you want to leave after that date you have to get an extension at the immigration office. this is supposed to be fairly easy to do, though, so i'm not sure why your school would have a problem with it. |

I doubt they have any legal ground to stand on, but this sounds like the kind of battle you can only lose. If they continue to insist on their arbitrary rule, you can probably force them to pay up in court, but it won't be convenient, and it will also ruin that school as a reference. |

|
|
Hi, I just went through this process on Aug 31st.
My contract with EPIK ended on that day. My arc had already been extended by 8 days to cover until the end of the contract.
I called immigration regarding this. You can go to immigration on or before the last day of the ARC. So I went on the 31st and they stamped my passport until Sept 30th. They then wrote a second extension on the back of my ARC until SEpt 30th.
You have 30 days to exit the country.
However... with EPIK they only pay your ticket back if you depart within 10 days of the contract ending. I had confirmation from my POE on this.
So: you can stay 30 days after but you MUST go to immigration before the ARC expires.
Your employer may have a stipulation that they can say how long after expiration they will refund your ticket.
Hope I helped. |

God how does this bloody nonsense continue year and after year. YOU GET TO STAY IN THE COUNTRY TILL THE DAY WHICH YOUR ARC CARD SAYS.
NO NO NO NO
1. You get an extra two weeks past the date.
2. When the contract ends!
3. Six months extra if you are Canadian or 3 months of other.
My advice make sure you have an extension from immigration. Show the school your plane ticket. Make sure they understand that you will be out of the apartment by the 20th or when they need you gone. (maybe that what they are on about). You might need to get a motel for a few days.
Good Luck |

Okay, thanks everyone. I'll just get an extension; it seems easy enough. |

They are ful of bs
I just quit my visa and after asking for extra time. they gave me a 30 exit order...
Just tell your school you need a few days to sort a few things out before leaving. If they wont do it call your gepik / epik supervisor and kick up a sh*tstorm |

You can get a departure extension. You'll need to take your passport, ARC, and plane ticket to immigration. This extension will give you 30 more days.
If your school won't give you the ticket, you'll need to buy one and get it refunded after the visit.
The immigration trip would be a good time to go to the pension office and get all that squared away as well, if you're leaving for good. At the pension office, you'll need one more thing--your target bank information. |

You used to be able to get an extension done online here:
http://www.hikorea.go.kr
I just needed to scan my passport, exit ticket etc.
If it still works, make sure you check the extension date once it's been granted. The clever folk at my local immigration office 'extended' my visa to five days before the date on my ARC. |

I can vouch from personal experience that it doesn't. A while ago, I thought I had 10 days grace only to be hauled up at the airport, told off, and fined 100,000 Won. |

Because like with the US military in Korea, the mass pool of workers are transient and make it a year or less before rotating out, and unlike USFK, TESOLers don't have a command structure with higher ups who provide continuity and instruction to the new fish swimming in each year.
For TESOLers, honestly, we have a central website with a poor search engine, and a "command structure" that seems to often like to kick the crap out of the new fish.... |

Weird how it's one rule for some and one rule for others at immi.
I cancelled my visa with my employer two weeks ago and they automatically gave me a 30 day exit order, I had no plane ticket or anything... |

That's because you didn't finish your contract. If you finish your contract and it's the last day or so on your alien card, you need to get the extension and show a plane ticket out of here at the same time. Same goes if you're extending a 30-day exit order such as the one you had. |

I can confirm you get at least two weeks even if you only worked half of your contract. My school canceled my visa(we ended on good terms) and immi gave me a few weeks after my visa was canceled to leave the country. Maybe I happened to luck upon a nice employee at immi but that's what she told me. I can't seem to remember if it was two weeks or one month, but I left at two weeks, but can't remember if I still had two more weeks left to leave. |

Be careful that they aren't setting you up for non-payment. It's my guess that they want the housing available for the next teacher from that day. |
