Hello,

I was just offered a 3 month position at a hagwon. It's a newer hagwon, so he is willing to work with me for a shorter period of time. (I need a position for 3 months or less).

Will a C4 Visa be sufficient for this situation? He said he will pay for my Visa run.

Also, he wants me to draw up a contract. Are there any resources for finding contracts?

Much thanks!

Joe

I am 90% sure you're director is wrong. I have never heard of a hagwon being allowed a camp visa. I think they have to be registered as a language camp, like the immigration website says. E-2's are only valid for 1 year, no longer, no shorter. If all we had to do is sign up for a C-4 (the camp visa) then we could all get short visas if we wanted. You're going to need the E-2 visa.

About the contract, ya, there is a contract thread. Find one, look at the corrections UM made, and there you go.

Anybody know of a hagwon not doing a camp that was allowed a camp visa? The main problem are the requirements. There are less requirements for a C-4 and if they know the hagwon is not a camp but a hagwon, they will want you to do like everyone else and get the E-2.

Let us know if you can somehow though.

Thanks Carla. I'll let him know. I think he may know he needs the E2 Visa, but may be looking for other options.

Do you think there will be any problem getting an E-2 Visa for a 3 month teaching contract?

Thanks.

That's what I'm saying, there is no 3 month visa. What happens if you both agree, you get a 1 year visa with a 1 year contract, and then at the end of 3 months you're done. No harm, no foul. If you want a second contract that you both sign saying you are released from the 1st contract after three months, that's fine. But immigration will only take the 1 year contracts.

OK, cool.

I'm planning on working Nov, Dec, and January, and then taking February off. After that, I will start with SMOE in March. Do you know if this 1 year Visa will be a problem with me starting with SMOE?

Also, my friend said that he did two 1-month contracts back in 2006, and he said that he just got a 1 month Visa. Do you think this was a special case, or have the rules changed?

Thanks for your help. Laughing

I think he was probably talking about a C-4 visa, which is a camp visa. That's just my guess. Ya, you can do that, just get a 1 year visa and have your boss sign a "Letter of Release" before you start if it will make you feel better. It won't be worth anything, but at least it will show you left on good terms.
