| In my year and a half as a teacher here, I have never brought a banana to school, nor have I ever been offered one at school. My wife however, gave me a banana to take to school today, and when I got here my coteacher gave me one as well! If that isn't crazy I really don't know what is. |

Not every fruit is available year round here. Most of it is seasonal stuff. Like clemintines, grapes, strawberries, kiwi's, etc.. So when the season for the fruit rolls around, you'll see it everywhere. Parents will bring it in as a gift for the teachers, other teachers give them to each other, business will throw in some as a "service."
For example, I think the purple grapes (the ones with seeds) just came into season not long ago. I've been given bundle after bundle by various parents and teachers at my school lately. But I've been to a dozen stores trying to locate some strawberries and it just aint gonna happen. Though I've seen them sell them before, nobody has them now. I'm assuming it's because they're not in season now (I'm no farmer) and not because Koreans have delcared war on them.
But don't complain about it to others. They'll probably be offended even if you were just making a joke about it. Just take it. If you don't want it, trash it later (I do that with those effin grapes with seeds in them. I mean really, who wants grapes with seeds? Waste of time if you ask me.) |

So this is what I heard about bananas in Korea:
"Bananas come from the Philippines. It takes months for them to get here, so they must be sprayed with all kinds of chemicals to preserve them from going bad on the ship. The banana you bought today, is months old..."
True or false? I don't know, but I like a good banana once in awhile. |

Yeah.... I'm pretty sure bananas are available year round here.
That thing about the chemicals is interesting. When I buy a banana in the states they go bad right away maybe 2-3 days they're all brown and crap. But bananas here stay good for a long time. The peel can even be all brown and yet the banana is still good. I always thought maybe they were more fresh... I guess I was wrong.
As far as subliminal messages being relayed by my coteach and wife.... not a chance ^^ |

In Korea strawberries are a winter fruit.. so look out for them at the end of December or thereabouts. |

| Maybe there's some kind of banana surplus right now? I hadn't eaten one in probably most of a year, then we had them for dessert with lunch last week. |

| When I went to Starbucks yesterday, I noticed that they sell banana in a plastic bag. Looked really weird; wish I had my camera. |

| Sounds like an interesting coincidence. Nothing wrong with bananas there or anywhere else, as far as I know. They are good for you. I rarely eat them, but I'm kinda dumb about many things. |
