I am a new member to this site. Can anyone help me out on this one. I just recently arrived here in Seoul. I have but one problem. For some reason my bank card is not working and I need to get some cash. I have my visa card but with one problem, i dont remember my pin # because i have never taken a cash advance in the 3 years since i've had this card. My question : Are there any places that I can goto that i can make a purchase and get a cash advance at the same time?? For example if i shop at Walmart and buy something with my visa they give you the option to take cash advance. This way i get get some cash without the use of my pin #. Please help on this matter. Thank you.

I don't know about cash back, but if you go into any bank they should be able to give you money over the counter when you fill a form in.
You'll probably need your passport, and it might be difficult to explain what you mean without help from a korean.

Remeber stores here in Korea do not have debit machines at the counter. SOme may have an ATM in store like Walmart.

But as to your home country bank. Most korean ATM will not work. You have to find a global ATM. Check at banks near central part of your city. Big branch bangs will have the global ATMS.

I think you are going to need your PIN. Have you tried calling the 1-800 number. They can help you set up a PIN. Maybe not but you could try.

Good Luck

There are global ATMs called "Nice Cashing" in most subway stations and shopping areas. You could try your home ATM card at one of those before panicking.

Yes, you are probably using a domestic ATM machine. Find one that accepts international cards. You can get cash with those.

Can't remember your PIN? Any bank will give you a cash advance using your Visa card if you go in person and with the proper ID. Then call the Visa company for a new PIN.

Forget doing anything on the machines- forget phoning- just go to a bank and present your passport and credit card (at the appropriate counter) asking for an advance and they'll fill out a form, hand you the money, and you'll be on your way. I don't think an E-2 visa eesoyo or upsoyo will make a difference.

I had the same problem and tried to sort it out- basically you're looking at getting a new card with a pin you do know. That takes time.

Also- I used to get across the counter cash advances at Hotels without any problem. Not sure if many of them do that- but the bank is a sure shot.

Thanks so much guys and gals. I did just that. I went to a bank, actually i had to try a few of them. But eventually I got to a bank that would do it for me when i presented my passport.

Also, there is a Visa office in Myongdong. Just go there. They speak English.
