|
|
Some friends are coming to visit and I want to take them around Seoul. Can you recommend some places I should take them to that are unique.
I have planned already to go to:
- shopping areas like Myeongdong, Namdaemun, Dongdaemun and Insadong
- the DMZ
- Dr. Fish
- N Seoul tower
I wanted to go to some palaces/museums, but a lot of them close by 6pm or so and I work untill 5.
Any help is appreciated! |

Cheonggye Stream. It was already nice, but in the past 6 months a large highway area near it has been renovated as well (sorry to not be more specific). The area with the statue of Admiral Sun-Sin (I think?). It use to be all road, now in the center there's a plaza with timed fountains/gardens. Surrounding the plaza is a sidewalk-sized grid recounting Korean history, with water running over it (cooler than it sounds maybe).
Seoul Fortress Wall is an OK hike.
What about the amusement parks in Seoul? They are OK if one arrives very early.
A day-trip to- basically anywhere in Korea. The KTX (186mph at peak) is a tourist experience itself for people from many nations (maybe not applicable to you, I don't know). There are lots of <80,000 KRW day trips to anywhere in the country. My favorites have been Busan & the tea plantations/bamboo forest in Jeollanam-do.
Bicycle riding (rent) along the Han river is nice. |

Wow, thanks for the suggestions. The stream will definitely be put on the itinerary. It's just really hard to figure out what to do when I have so little time to spend with them while they are here. I'm sure they will venture out on their own too, but I'd like to try and do as much as possible with them.
Have you taken the Han river boat tour??? Is it worth it? |

i took the boat tour and thought it was a waste, personally...
-but go to the banpo bridge near the han river between 8-9pm and they have the water/lights show which is neat (getting cold now though).
-there's a kimchi museum in coex, lol (and pretty nice aquarium).
-korean folk village in suwon (also a "great wall" there too).
-seodaemun prison where the japanese tortured koreans
-go to gangwondo if you have time. seoraksan in sokcho for mountains and hiking or go to chuncheon for the lake/island for relaxing. |

I haven't taken the boat tour.
I agree with Korea Folk Village (the one South of Bundang at least) being kinda fun. |

I like Lake Park in Ilsan if you want to get away from all he hustle and bustle of Seoul. Lots of green, cleaner air, huge lake. Easy to get to by subway and express bus. You can rent bikes and cycle around. MUCH more nicer than the parks in Seoul like Olympic Park etc.
Nice shoping area near by there in La Festa also.
Maybe the Dragon Spa jimjilbang in Yongsan? |

Nanta or Samchunggak would be a nice dining experience. |

oh yeah Nanta is awesome. i've seen it twice. and the B-Boys thing is cool too.
for food, take them to Samwon Garden in Apgujeong, it's really famous. It's beef galbi and it's about the same price as it is in most places (20 something) but you just have to go to see how beautiful it is. They have a man-made waterfall and stuff. |
