A friend of mine is going to be shipping two video cards and a motherboard to me from the States. Would I run into problems with customs? The total value of the items is in the range of 700USD. Anyone ever do this before?
Thanks. |

If they come together, shipped as new you will get hit at customs with import duties and VAT.
Ship separately as used and you will be fine.
Be sure to have them sent to you at work (not home) and have the address written on the box in Korean (e-mail a printable .jpg to your friend that they can tape/glue onto the box) as well as in English.

I have resurrected this month and a half old thread to ask the following:
I want to order a custom built laptop from the States. It would ship as a new, assembled, obviously - so it sounds like it would get hit with VAT, etc.
My question is, do you get hit with VAT/Duties if you ship to an APO address? Anybody know?
Also, where can I find out how to calculate how much VAT would be if I get hit with it? |

If you can find someone to hand carry it for you, that would be the best way.
As a civilian, I can't answer the APO question.

No, an APO address is excluded and you will not have any duties to pay. It's the exact same as shipping within the U.S. I had all my big stuff that would be taxed/too pricey, shipped to a buddy on base (iPad, laptops, camera lenses, etc.) Unfortunately, he's stationed in WA state now and I cannot do it anymore |
