So it's Chuseok weekend, is anyone here sitting all alone in their apartment cursing Korea and bathing in self pity?

Do not be afraid!!! You are probably not alone!

Why would I curse Korea? I'm glad to have the day off, but I'm cursing myself for putting off all the things I'm supposed to be doing now.

Yeah, I was just wallowing in a bit of pity: in America if a foreigner told 5 American friends that they had absolutely no plans over the entire Thanksgiving holiday, they would be invited to at least two dinners. But for a foreigner in Korea for Chuseok, nothing but "see you next week."
But this is totally self pity for so many reasons:
- Chuseok isn't the invite friends over kind of dinner like Thanksgiving (from what I understand)
- I probably wouldn't want to go to a Korean big family dinner anyway (large groups make me a bit uneasy).
- Korean friends are very sociable the rest of the year.
- I enjoy the empty Seoul streets.

So, yes, a bit of holiday blues, self pity creeps in. I'm going to go ride my scooter around the empty streets for fun now.

Would not say I'm wallowing in self-pity but I am feeling a bit lonely. But that's just the way it goes sometimes.

a little lonely but it will give me a chance to catch up on some stuff i've been putting off. also, i went with co-teacher to her in- law's house for chuseok last year and while it was enjoyable, and a good way to experience the culture i'm not disappointed i didn't get the invite this year.

i'm hoping to go out tonight and maybe hit up myeongdong tomorrow or monday. everything will be open and it will be business like usual right?

I agree with RobertGR:

Not lonely...but alone! Big difference! Also...not hating on Korea or Koreans...it's not their fault they're busy!!! Actually having a decent day...getting things done (except for right now I guess), listening to some tunes...relaxing! I'll be busy again tomorrow...so one quiet day won't kill me...I hope!!!

It's been so quiet on campus and a friend and I were able to play Frisbee on the soccer field with no other people, just a few rubberneckers. The long weekend let me go to Busan for a Costco run and the traffice wasn't all that bad either. Overall, I've been a little bit more active and enjoying my time around here more!

no self-loathing due to Chuseok here!

Unfortunately for me yes I am all alone in my apartment. But it's not by choice.

I had a lovely day planned for Saturday. Meet this nice girl, have coffee and go for a walk and injoy the great weather. Then meet up with some friends head to a restaurant and enjoy the company, food and drinks.

And Sunday would getting over Saturday night, spring cleaning and shopping.

But since Friday, I have been stuck in bed with the Chuseok Flu that seems to be going around.

Yes, I'm all alone this chuseok. I went out on thursday night, but my friends are either doing school work or in other cities. I made flashcards for myself and tried to motivate myself to clean my refrigerator but opted for drinking and playing zelda.

Hi,

Well I am sitting in my apartment and bathing in self pity, yes.

No real need for the self pity, I guess it is just a weird feeling for it to be too much trouble to go anywhere. Boredom has set in. Got the gumption to go somewhere today but probably tomorrow's transport would be difficult coming back.

I do have company at least.

Anyone in Daejeon then? Feel free to PM.
