I applied to teach in Korea through EPIK earlier this year. Unfortunately, after having been issued with a notice of appointment, I was unable to take-up my place: the money I had set aside to travel there and buy equipment for my time there became unavailable.
I let the EPIK office in Seoul know within a week of receiving my notice of appointment that I would be unable to accept their offer for this reason. Since I was and still am keen to teach in Korea through EPIK, I asked them if I would be able to reapply for the March 2010 scheme; I was told at the time that I would be able to do so.
Having emailed them a couple of weeks ago to ask them what documents I would need to resubmit for the application to the March 2010 scheme, I received an email last week telling me that, since I had rejected their previous offer of employment, I would not be able to reapply to EPIK unless I could explain to them how my reason for doing so was unavoidable. I am not too confident that, having explained the reason to them once again, they will deem it an unavoidable one. If they do prevent me from reapplying, I will look to GEPIK and SMOE as a way of teaching in Korean public schools; I am not interested in teaching in a Hagwon.
My question is this: am I right in thinking that if EPIK do prevent me from reapplying to them, this will most likely damage any attempt I make to obtain a Visa and, therefore, prevent me from teaching in Korea altogether?
