If a KT official is to believed, the iPhone will start selling in November, according to the Korea Times.

SWEET!!!
man, I've slugged around my iPhone 3G as a glorified iPod in Korea, leaving it in airplane mode. Hopefully KT will let me activate my current one with a new SIM card instead of forcing me to buy a new one.
For those of you who are in my situation using Skype over wifi on the iPhone, my experience is that I can find open wifi access points maybe 30-50% of the time, usually near subway stations. Plus it sucks that you have to leave Skype on if you wish to receive calls, unless it's jailbroken.
Samsung and LG are probably shaking in their boots over this... |

It's been approved for sale, however, similar stories have been released over the past year stating similar things. Until Apple actually releases a statement I wouldn't get too excited yet.
Also, I gave my old 3G to my sister in Canada since I figured that they wouldn't allow foreign iPhones on their networks due to the IMEI whitelist. I wouldn't mind buying a new 3GS as long as the wifi isn't crippled like in China. |

I forsee them still banning foreign iPhones on their system. Probably will make up some BS about compatibility issues or jailbroken, etc. I would love for there to be an expat iPhone community here in Seoul. Maybe even iPhone meetups haha. |

I agree with the above post. Just like they did with the Blackberry Bold here, they'll probably tie up the iPhone in a way where only domestic iPhones are eligible for service... sigh... |

Screw 'em. Just get the cheapest of cheap phones with only the basic functions. NEVER use their expensive internet services. Keep using your I-phone for web surfing and free wifi (or get an I-pod touch). |

Apple won't release it in Korea if the network providers can't come up with a reasonable data plan with decent or no limits. |

I've been reading on Naver and it looks like it'll be here November 16th (unofficial).
The price of the iPhone is still up for speculation. I doubt the iPhone will be cheaper than the iPod Touches. So whatever price the 16/32GB Touch is, add some more to that and you'll get the price of the iPhone. |

actually, if you have an unlocked iphone that you've purchased in another country, you can use it now.
it is fully supported by KT. just call them and they will let you use it. again, it must be unlocked. |

As a SHOW customer for more than 2 years, I am not getting excited by the release of the iPhone.
I am sure there is no way they will let me get one. It took me 3 hours to upgrade my handset, because foreigners can't have phones even though this was an upgrade to an account that has always been paid on time in full. |

Better triple check that source. Korea has different text messaging infrastructure and AFAIK no GSM infrastructure outside of ROAMing. But hey, I'm sure KT would LOVE for anyone to bring their unlocked iPhones and use them in Korea to rack up 1,000w per minute Roaming charges. |

More like 3,000 per minute. And data roaming too...
I've had my unlocked iPhone here and begged every company to let me use it, but was refused by all of them. I doubt I'll be able to use it here even when the iPhone is officially on a carrier. |

I pay 500 won a minute when I use my European phone in Korea. I think it might have been cheaper for me just to stick with my old phone instead of getting a Korean one. But incoming calls were very complicated/expensive and I couldn't send text messages so I decided to get a Korean phone. |

For those of us living here with a foreign iPhone, this MAY be a game changer (assuming this is true). Is there any way you can get some of these people to post a youtube video and show the rest of us that this is true? |

I just called them on the Foreign Customer line (02 2190 1180) about using an unlocked iPhone. She asked me which country the iPhone was from and I told her Hong Kong (to my knowledge the only country you can buy unlocked iPhones).
She told me
.
I usually find that Show helpline to be more cooperative than dealers and more accurate.
It might be possible that some dealers are fudging paperwork to connect iPhones. |
