Where the hell do you buy blue ray movies? I've found blue ray players at plenty of places. But I am lost where to buy the movies. They don't appear to have them at Emart, Lotte Mart, Hyundia department store and a few other random electronic stores... I even tried to ask the people where. They look at me puzzled and point me to the blue ray players. I then ask for the movies and they don't know...
any pointers?
I am in Ulsan... is there a chain that has them? |

The biggest (and cheapest) selection is Video Nara in Technomart at Gangbyeon station on the green line in East Seoul. Video Nara is on the topmost computer sales floor, located below the upper food court floor. It's almost in a corner of the floor. Lots of new and often 10 to 20 used Blu-rays.
I own over 100 blu-rays at the moment. I used to buy them often, but now only buy ones I can't be without (gotta pick up Wolverene if it's out). If the blu-ray doesn't have HD audio, I won't buy it. I have actually purchased more used DVD's as of late. Prices are cheaper, and my Oppo DVD player upconverts so well that I am happy enough with the result.
I almost never pay more than 16,000 to 20,000 for a blu-ray used. If they want more, I skip it. I don't like to buy new at all, but will pay up to 25,000 if it's an absolute must-have. I was shipping from the USA until the exchange rate took a dump last year. That killed-off a lot of my buying. |

If you take the subway get off at Samsung Stn, line 2 (green), exit 6 goes right into COEX. Bypass the first door on your left, walk to the end of the "courtyard" and you'll see another set of doors. Walk straight and you'll run right into it, next to the bookstore. |

I'm surprised people still spell it like blue ray. I'm not trying to take a jab at you or anything, I'm genuinely surprised. |

Go over the railways tracks on the covered bridge, then out of that building and onto the next one....near where they sell games consoles, and there is a DVD/blu ray shop on the corner there.

If you're in Ulsan, you're better off buying them online.
interpark.com, yes24.com, amazondvd.co.kr and others all have Blu Ray DVDs in stock. |

I second the shop in Technomart but I wonder how long it will take for them to run out of space - new Bluray movies are coming out almost every day now and their selection is now rather small compared to what's available.
They seem to have Bluray pretty soon after the official release.
Otherwise, if you don't mind breaking one law or another, you can spend some money on a good media tank (say TVIX HD-6500) and a few Terabytes of hard disk space (getting cheaper much faster than movie disks), then use Korea's sparkling fast internet and download x264 rips of movies (in 1080p usually just 8-16 GB each... an hour or two) or the complete disk image (that's over 20GB and I'm not sure if every media tank will play that, but your computer might). You can also use a regular computer as a media station but these media tanks have dedicated video decoder chips that give you really smooth playback at 1080p.
I bought some Bluray disks last year (BBC Planet Earth, The Godfather Trilogy) but the quality difference between the original disk and the recoded rip was not noticable for me - maybe bad eyesight. I still have a collection of 1000+ DVD (legal originals) so I will keep the Bluray money for the few movies that deserve it.
Oh, the Planet Earth was Korean language 5.1 surround and original English in stereo only? Weird. Internet has the series in English, 5.1. |

Planet Earth has several versions, actually. One has Sigourney Weaver narrating. Another has that British dude (far better). One of well-known Korean announcers voices the Korean version... and so forth. Sometimes multiple voice tracks can be found for different countries. |

Hope you enjoy it! Once you go HD, you can't go back (at least for me ) |

I presume you mean SIR David Attenborough.
The man is a living legend. 'Dude' doesn't do him justice in my opinion. |
