|
|
I'm looking to get some good earbuds around the 100,000-200,000w range.
All I can find in Korea are crappy 20,000-40,000w earbuds, or the chinese knockoff Seinhesers/AKG's. Where can I get some Ultimate Ears, Shure's, or other good brands and be sure I'm not gettin some chinese knockoff? I doubt many venders will let me tear open the box and give the earbuds a test drive before buying them.
Also, any recommendations? I've been thinking about the Ultimate Ears SuperFi 4. |

| I had the same problem, I wanted some Sennheisers, but they're all Chinese knock-offs for 3/4 of the price of a real pair. I settled on a pair of KOSS KSC75s which cost around 25kwon, but sound as good as something that costs ten times as much. They're not earbuds though. |

I bought a pair of Soundmagi PL30s for 25k off of Gmarket, chinese but they honesty sound better than the the Q-Jays I had beforehand. Also, I'm less worried about damaging them while out n about due to the lower cost. Try the headphone shop at yongsan or headphoneclub in Sindorim Technomart. They have demos available and good headphone preamps to listen through before you buy.
http://www.headphoneshop.co.kr/ <--- better prices but always really busy and hard to get service.
http://www.headphoneclub.co.kr/ <--- one of the two guys here speaks English, which helps. BUT overpriced. |

I'm using the Klipsch Image S4....mighty fine. 99,000 online in Korea.
http://reviews.cnet.com/best-headphones/?tag=leftColumnArea1.0
They block out 99% of external noise and have a very well balanced sound. Although you would think they are so bass heavy at first. All headphones are like that. It takes 50-100 hours of listening before the drivers lose their rough edges and give you the sound that they will give you for as long as they last.
Buying headphones by testing various pairs in a shop will probably not show you their eventual sound. It might be an indicator, that's all.
My last pair were the V-Moda Vibes. 80,000. Fantastic sound. But made poorly. The connections on each earbud and jack started fraying in less than 1 year. They failed completely in 18 months. |

| I have had Shures for the past few years and love them. I saw them being sold at Apple stores here in the past but probably much cheaper at gmarket. |

Not sure. My wife ordered. I just told her the brand and model to buy.
I'll let you know later.
One thing is for sure......when you start getting into ear-canal phones around the 100,000 level, your music will sound like it never did before, it's almost magical....the vividness and dynamics will astound you........
The amount of people who think it's stupid to spend more than 20 bucks on earphones....they don't know.
I've heard that the next step up from $100 earphones is $300 earphones. Like the legendary Shure SE500 series. That's a whole other level.
Of course, you should have a good source file and player.......that's three things.....file-player-earphones.......all three must be good quality to get the magic sound. One weak link will defeat the other two.
Try to get FLAC files. Or MP3 over 192kbps. |

Cool, would really like to know. They are not easy to find here, I'll tell you that. |

Yeah, they're not.
I'm interested too, but for all my Gmarket wizardry I can't find this model (Image S4). Image X5, X10 and O are common, but they run from 270'000 to 450'000원. Are you sure it was Gmarket? I found them on earphoneshop for the exact price you mentioned.. |

I'll try to post other links for them later. |

Right. That's where my wife ordered them from. But I don't know if they're only available from E-mart's online store, or if they're also sold in the actual stores.
When I was researching a month ago, I'm sure I saw the S4's on Danawa and Enuri......but they're not there now. Sold out? |

| Bah, I'm tired of this discrimination. I filled out the entire form to sign up for earphoneshop, hit the button and (not really surprisingly) it tells me my registration number is invalid. Now I have to get a Korean friend to sign up to this website so they can actually sell me something. You'd think these places would want to sell their wares, but noOOoo.... |

| I would second the soundmagic pl30s. I have a pair and they are good. real good. but even better are the soundmagic pl50s that i bought at the end of summer. you can get them for around 65000 won. They are reckoned to be one of the best sounding under $100 headphones around. Very clean sound. Not bass heavy. |
