I'm seriously considering getting a PS3. I'm not sure if it'd be easier to order online in the states and ship it in or get it here. My main concern is games. If I buy it here, will U.S. games play on it? And when I go back, can I just swap power cords?

I bought a PS3 in Korea and absolutely love it.
Unless you have friends on military bases, then the easiest way to get a PS3 in Korea is to buy one at an electronics market, Yongsan or Technomart. You can find them at places like Home+, but I think they're marked up. Places like Amazon won't ship PS3's to Korea last time I checked. You could also check Play-Asia.com and Gmarket.com, two good resources for this kind of thing.
All games are region free. Any game for the PS3 will play on any PS3. I take it you're from the US? If so, then Korea and the US have the same Blu-ray region, so that's not a problem either, just DVD's (US=region 1, Korea=region 3).
And no, if you are from the US and buy an Asian PS3, you'll need a special plug to operate the PS3 in the US. They aren't too expensive though, maybe $40. |

Do you buy your games here? Is there a language issue? I'm particularly interested in Mag and the latest Rachet & Clank.

I brought my US ps3 with me to Korea, but ended up selling it to get the Japanese FF13 ps3.
As for games, I purchase my games here and online. Some Korean PS3 games do come in English, with English menus as well. But, some games are in Korean and English (English voices, Korean menus). Play-asia.com ships to Korea. It's where I get all my US games like FF13 and COD:MW2 |

What i usually do is print off some shots of the game menu in English and refer to that for the games that have menus only in Korean. |

I buy my games in Korea and sometimes have people send me them from the US.
All of my games play in full English no matter where I've bought them. If you go to a place like Yongsan, just ask the seller if it's in English. Most of them will be able to answer that. I'm not one to trust easily, and I've even asked sellers to show me the game with English before I buy. If the game isn't wrapped they won't have a problem with that. That being said, if a person ever said a game was full English, I've never had a problem. Or, you could just look on the back and see if English is listed as the disc language. I've even seen US versions of games in Yongsan, but they are sometimes around 5k won more.
One word of potential warning. Im not big into DLC, but if you have a US PSN account, it's usually (if not always) impossible to get the DLC from the US PSN store. You could set up a Korean PSN account, or a Japanese account to avoid this problem.
I'm not too sure about those games specifically, but I'll try to do some poking around for you. |

Not true. I've had no problems at all with the US store. Xbox live on the other hand... |

Fair enough, I may have misspoken about the degree in which problems occur.
I have a Korean version of Little Big Planet, and while the game plays perfectly, I cannot access things I've downloaded off of the US store.
I'm not sure to what extent problems like this happen, but they can happen. They seem limited to disc add-ons, everything else has been absolutely fine. |

I don't have a US account so I'd have to set it up from scratch here. Has anyone given Mag a try? Any issues?

Setting up the US account is very easy, even while in Korea.
according to Play-Asia.com, the Asian version of MAG is in English. |

Just curious, but why is MAG such a big deal? I've been hearing loads about it recently and it's only gotten mediocre reviews. |

Honestly, the allure of the game is lost on me. In my opinion most gamers like it because it is a dedicated multiplayer game; which it seems is one of the biggest draws of games these days. Also, in MAG you can get promoted which I could see as being fun if youre in to that kind of thing. I think your rank affects what you can do in the game too. I guess its cool that you can play with over 200 people at one time, but mass multiplayers just dont do it for me.
I mean, look at Modern Warfare; a mediocre game that everyone rants and raves about just because of the multiplayer. |

I like the idea of the 256 player matches. But the reviews I've read have been better then average. Amazon has it rated at 4 our of 5 stars and IGN gave it 7 out of 10.
But, to be honest, the closest I've gotten to these sort of games is a pirated version of Call of Duty a few years back and SOCOM on my old PS2, which I didn't care for.

Bump!
I'd like to ask a few questions more here...
Ever since the reviews of Heavy Rain and Uncharted I've been wanting to get a PS3 here.
1. Does the system's menu have a language option? If I buy a ps3 here, will the system menus be only in Korean (like Wii)
2. Is it possible to set up a US PSN account with a Korean credit card? probly not I assume, but does paypal work? |

There IS a language option. My Korean PS3 system menu is 100% English.

No experience here. I just use an American CC. It's a little TOO easy to buy things on PSN. The system saves all your data (or maybe I told it to?), so when you purchase a game it's almost instantaneous. No entering of any data whatsoever. Just press confirm purchase and Sony has your money. |
