My first job in Korea (2001 - 2003) was in Siheung, but in another part of it - it's pretty spread out. My experience there wasn't that bad, but it was a couple hours from Seoul (though the director at my hogwan advertised that it was about 40 minutes via express bus.) I think it may have been about 40 minutes by bus to connect with the greater Seoul subway line at Bucheon, but I often took a shorter - but less direct - bus to Ansan and connected to the subway there.

It's certainly not the nicest, but not the worst place to live in Korea, either.

I am currently in Siheung. I like it, but I'm not a party person. There aren't many foreigners where I am. I'm not sure where I am in relation to the part you're going to be. They may be the same for all I know.

Everything will be fine as long as you don't need to visit Seoul every week. Ansan and Siheung are relatively poor areas, and land and apartments cost far less than in most other satellite cities like Bucheon (including Jung Dong), Goyang (including Ilsan), Sungnam (including Bundang), Gwachon, Anyang, Suwon, Guri, Uijongbu, and many more because of the distances to Seoul's Gangnam area, inconvenient mass transportations that are used by most subway-commuting residents of Gyung-Gi Do, and also because the places are traditionally resorts and industrial complexes (of the lowest tiers.)

The closest subway station from Wolgot's probably the Bucheon Station (to which I live very near.) A lot of Siheung residents take bus to Bucheon Station and Sosa Station in Bucheon.

At least, you will be able to find some cheap places to live in, much better and larger than all those "one-room" and "officetel" places in Shinchon and Gangnam.
