I normally dont rant, and I will keep it to a minimum.
I went to the dentist for the first time in 2 years today. Probably more, anyway not important. I went because i have a half erupted wisdom tooth that has been bothering me for awhile.
It hurts for a week or two, stops, and starts again every couple months I guess. Right when I get around to getting to the dentist it stops. So, today I had enough of it and went to my local dentist. They tried ot make me speak Korean, which I can to a certain extent, but definitely dont know how to talk about wisdom teeth. They caved and spoke English just fine.
They look at my tooth and told me it was probably getting infected because of the half eruption. He cleaned it, and my mouth tasted awful. Couldve been the blood or any combination of things. Im glad they had a cup of water and a sink ready to get that awful saltwater taste out of my mouth.
Then they took an x-ray. the rest of my teeth including the one that is giving my problems came in straight, but because im not a teenager, it wont go any further. He told me that because my tooth might be in the nerve canal that follows my jaw, He couldnt operate safely. Bascially if they damage the canal, I would lose all sensation in my lower lip and tongue.
Then the stupidity comes out, not the first time Ive been asked. He asked me what I was allergic to. I said "Amoxicilla"n ( some kind of antibiotic i think). He looked confused and said "Why? How do you know?"
All I could say is that's what the doctor told me. I didnt bother asking him."
I just find it retarded to be asked why I am allergic to something.
The End. |

I'll take a stab at this...
He was probably surprised because he was going to prescribe Amoycillan for you. If my memory is correct, that is a very common antibiotic given to treat infection. He probably just wanted to know more about what made you allergic in the past.
I'll bet that's it... his reaction was one of surprise because he was about to send you to the pharmacist to get that very thing. |

Also, there are very different reactions to the "cillin"s. Some people are allergic to them and break out in either small or non-serious but very scary looking rashes. Other people simply die. If he was asking about how do you know, he might mean have you had a rash before or did you spend weeks in intensive care so he knows your level of allergy. It was probably a badly worded question. |

"Then the stupidity comes out...." Wow -- how appropriately ironic!
You know you are allergic to something because your doctor told you, but you have no recollection of ever having had a reaction to it? ...and the thought of asking your doctor how he magically knew that you had this allergy never occurred to you?
Yep, the stupidity certainly came out! |

OP
If you are going to live in Asia, you definitely have to learn to be more patient with people, doctors included. |
