|
|
Hi...does anyone work under gepik and gets more than 21 days of paid holidays? or is 20-21 holidays a norm?
not sure which is the way to go? gepik or epik?
i've been looking at some job postings, and it seems that under epik certain provinces in korea give you way more paid holidays than other...is there no standard?
why is it that some epik contracts give u 14 days, while others such as in the province of gangwando, so postings offer 6-7 paid weeks during the year, and on top of that other official holidays and school holidays...
if you work under epik, where do you work? and how many holidays do u get?
thanks. |

With CEPIK you get 21 days, 10 in summer, 11 in winter.
If you're a very good boy or girl your principal can award you extra days at their discretion. |

i don't know if it's the whole province of gangwando, or certain areas that give you 6-7 paid weeks off during the year...
there should be a standard, shouldn't there? |

Yeah, you made me go check my contract. It explicitly states that:
11.2: Employee who is working in a designated rural area shall be entitled to a paid allowance of 100,000 KRW every month and an additional 5 days' paid leave during the contract term.
12.1: Employee shall be entitled to a paid leave for a total of twenty (20) working days during the term of employment. |

I believe it changed some time ago. I just signed my second contract and both included 20 days (25 for rural). I think it change just prior to October 2008 but not 100% certain. |

what is considered rural? most of korea seems rural...lolol...
j/k...
yeah i did hear u get an extra 5 days for rural...that's been the case for at least the past year..
what about school holidays? not national holidays...does your school have any school holidays? and are you off on those days? i'm sure we've had some school holidays, but my school wants me to come on all days, even on sports days, or foundation days, etc...
do u guys get any school holidays off in addition to your 14, or 20 or 21 or 25 paid vacation days? |

Any days off in addition to your vacation days (which you can only take during school vaction) are at the discretion of the principle and seem to vary greatly between schools. Even though there are no students, a great many of us have to attend the school and desk warm during school holidays. Some get half days or even better deals. On the up side you are getting paid to do nothing or an opportunity to do some work. |

Gangwon epik is standardized. 5 weeks for a one-year stint plus 2 additional weeks if you renew. [Those are calendar weeks, inclusive of weekends & any national holidays that fall within them.] Schools are directed to put epik teachers to use for the difference between student vacation & epik's official vacation time. Its contractual. Straightforward & across the board.
The difference from other provinces was implemented to draw applicants to this generally rural province. It worked. Its become a bit competitive to get hired on here, even with 500 or so positions. |
