Their return policy says you will get a full refund. Electronics have 90 days. It doesn't state a time limit for everything else that isn't a electronic.

So, why don't more people take advantage of it? Couldn't you just furnish your entire apartment from costco, save the receipts, and just get a full refund on everything when you leave the country?

I know a guy who gets full refund on foods. He'll buy some seafood. It'll sit in his fridge and expire. He'll return it AFTER the expiration date and he gets a full refund.

I know a friend back in the US who got a full refund on a Computer Desk that broke after 9 months of use.

I suppose you could do all that, but I personally disagree with the practice. When grapes go up in price it's partially due to the fact that people go around eating grapes in the store. The distributor loses money and drives up prices because of it.

When I worked at Wal-Mart, they would refund anything and everything. The Bay in Canada has a similar practice (I also worked there) until people took full advantage and started returning winter coats in April after they had been used all winter.

Costco's return policy USED to be absolutely amazing. People would buy flat screen TVs just for Super Bowl Sunday and return them Monday. Hell, people used to buy the newest TVs at Costco only to return them 10 years later. Same with the newest computers. The return policy had no statute of limitations.

I'm surprised it took Costco so long to figure this out. My friend used to work at Costco (for a period of several years) and he said they accepted an enormous amount of ridiculous returns. One woman returned an economy size pack of diapers with 3 left claiming that they had come like that...

[EDIT] My point is, I think they're being a bit more careful these days. Even though there might not be an expiration date for returns other than electronics, it's definitely not as great as it used to be.

You would look like a total prat. Only someone with no decency or shame would essential "rent" household items like that. This kind of tragedy of the commons ruins it for everyone. I can understand if your milk sprung a leak coming out of the store - return it. I've done that before. I wouldn't eat 4/5s of a cake and then return the last slice. That's pretty pathetic in my opinion.

Ruins it for every member then. Their policies tightened exactly because of the high numbers of "rentals" for Super Bowl sunday or March Madness. I like the piece of mind that their comfortable return policy gives me but I wouldn`t do an entire home furnishing on it. Just my .02 cents.

I know of someone who did just what you said, pkang - furnished his room then returned things when he left.
