My computer has gone bonkers. How much does tech support charge per hour here? I'm in Itaewon, so I think I might be able to find somebody with some English. |

I have two problems.
The first problem is that there is no sound from my computer. The system tray speaker icon appears with a 'red x' icon and indicates 'No Audio Output Device is Installed' when I roll over the icon. However, the Device Manager shows that 'Intel High Definition HDMI' is installed. I caused this problem myself, by trying to enable stereo mix on the Dell Inspiron 1525.
I followed this tutorial, and haven't been able to roll back the driver:
http://experi3nc3.wordpress.com/2008/08/05/tutorial-on-how-to-hack-sigmatels-driver-for-stereo-mix/
The second problem is that I cannot connect to the internet at the goshiwon I am staying in. I'm not sure if this is due to a fault in my computer or the goshiwon's connection. I was able to connect without a problem in Thailand just 3 days ago.
Perhaps related to this problem, under Network Adapters in the Device Manager window, there's a yellow exclamation mark next to 'Microsoft 6to4 Adapter #5'. The diagnosis given by windows is:
"This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)" |

You've somehow managed to mess up the LAN driver and sound driver.
Simply download the LAN and sound drivers for your model from the manufacturers website and install. It's easy.
Do you have a USB stick? You can download the drivers in a PC bang, store them on the USB, then install on to your computer. |

Right. Unistall the drivers first from the control panel and perhaps even disable the hardware before the inevitable reboot. When you do reboot, Windows will find "new" hardware, and attempt to install it. Probably the drivers are found within Windows, but if not, then do as eamo says and install them manually.
The good part about the 'let Windows try first' is that you may not need to ferry drivers around on a usb stick. |
