| I'm moving to Anyang in 3 weeks and wanted to bring my Nintendo DS (Lite) with me. Can I buy game cartridges over there for it? I keep reading about "R4's and TT's"....I don't know what those are!!! Here in Canada, I just go into Walmart or EB Games and buy individual games for the DS to play. Can I not do that there? Are the games in English? Maybe stupid questions....but please help! |

Of course you can buy games here. All DS games are region free so you can play all the Korean ones as well. Some of the games are english, and some are translated but I don't know which ones. So it's the luck of the draw to find which ones have english in them. |

If you search hard you might find one or two games in English here and there, but likely not the games you want.
Really, get an R4 or DSTT, unless you're some kind of anti-piracy nutcase, you won't regret it. |

Basically a memory card reader in the shape of a DS cartridge. You put games and firmware on a miniSD card, put it into the R4 or DSTT, pop it in your DS, turn it on and a menu pops up with all the games you have on your memory card. A 4gb card holds about 60 games. |

If you go to Yongsan electronic goods market in Seoul and go where they sell the R4's you'll be all set up for roughly 45,000 won. Then you download the games you want.
Regardless of your feelings on breaking the law doing this, it's about the only way you're going to get good English software here. |

If you don't feel ready to do the haggling with Yongsan vendors, check out Deal Extreme.

That little guy, plus a microSD card (don't bother with anything less than 4gb) will get you ready to ROCK.
Right now, I'm using NES and Genesis emulators. Don't forget Touch Dictionary, which is a handy English-Korean dictionary!

so do I just pop the microSD card (what is that by the way..like a camera memory card??) into my laptop and go to a website to download games? How does that work? Do you have to pay to download stuff?
P.S. Thanks for the website "positive"....Looks like that might be the route I go!! |

Pretty much. You'll need a micro sd compatible card reader to connect it to your computer. You can get those in many stores. I bought a second micro SD card that came with a USB plug in for it.
All this is on teh internets. Google really is your friend. |

Yeah... if there is something that you want, putting it plus "DS" in a google search will probably yield the result you want. Some things may be out of your technical reach (and mine, too) but hey- google it again! Or find a fanboy doing it on youtube.

remember "Kid Icarus" for the original Nintendo?...I used to love that game too...however I really am a Zelda junky at heart!...BTW..yes loved the sonics for sega as well!
Also, I realize that "google is my friend", but up until I posted this topic on Dave's, I had never even heard of a TT and microSD card...that being said, I googled the stuff after hearing about it on here and am getting a little more familiar with the products. Hope it's all as easy to use as it sounds... |

I like the language coach games and brain teasers, but I'll still play some action games, too. If you live in Seoul and ride public transportation, DS is the only way to go.
I also like dealextreme. I got an R4 card for slot 1 and a 3-in-1 vflash card for slot 2 that lets me play gameboy advance games, use the opera browser and has a rumble pack. |
