I will be finishing up a degree and certification in K-12 Art Ed this spring and am looking to teach in Korea starting in Aug/Sept 2010. I know I have a ton of time before I even need to apply, but I'm trying to figure out a path ahead of time (esp. before I discuss the issue with my family).
I am planning on using a recruiter and have checked out both Footprints and Reach to Teach, both look about the same to me. Does anyone have an opinion/know which is better?
I am also trying to decide whether to apply for SMOE or GEPIK. What are the pros/cons of both?
When I graduate I will have a teaching certificate and extensive experience in childcare management, teen leadership programs etc. If I decide to go I will probably also complete the 100hr online TEFL if it is worth it. From what I have read, it seems as though I should be able to find a decent job. What should I expect to make as a first year, are the salary guides for epik, gepik, smoe set in stone?
Also, do I have to wait for my diploma to be hired, or will I just need to provide it (or a notarized copy) once I arrive?
Lots of questions, but I figured this is the best place to ask! |

I really really recommend that you read through the many posts on here that can anwser your questions.
You have a year to be forearmed with all the information you need.
I wouldn't work for SMOE - why? Go and use the search engine and keep away from SMOE. |

If your degree is in Art Ed. you might be really unhappy teaching English here. All of the certified teachers I know are frustrated with the lack of flexibility and responsibility.
Why don't you look at some international schools that need art teachers? |
