You can apply yourself in person as long as it is within the first 90 days of working. You just have to show up to immigration with your passport/ARC.
All medical bills up to that point will be retroactively covered as long as you make sure to apply and pay your portion.
Of course there are always office politics to deal with (you don't want to piss off someone you have to work with everyday for the next year), but if you really need it, it's that simple. |

Why go to immigration to sign up for health insurance? That's stupid.
If your school doesn't sign you up as soon as you have your ARC, go to the local office yourself and do it. They need your ARC and you have to fill out a form. If they need school info, they'll just call and get it. It took me all of 5 minutes when I did it. |

No, you wrote that one should go to immigration for their insurance. That's bad advice. You go to the local health insurance office to sign up for health insurance. |
