Has anybody ever taught online tutoring lessons? If so, can you recommend some websites or online resources to get started? I'm just looking to teach 3 to 10 hours a week online, to earn some extra cash while I obtaining my teachers certification.

Although I'm not currently in Korea, I wanted to post this question to the collective wisdom that is ESL Cafe. Let's try to keep this one on topic please!

Thanks in advance.

So on an e-2, there is absolutely nothing you can do to make extra money?

1- Ask for Overtime at your school.

2- Ask permission to work at another location, get that in writing from your employer and registered with immigration.

Other than that, legally there is no way to earn extra money on an E-2.

What if you handle it through a bank back home where you aren't earning won? Are you saying we can't transfer won to dollars and invest those dollars into stocks through our home country? What if you have property back in your home country and you rent it out while you work in Korea? What if your parent dies and you inherit assets including money?

There is some fine line that we cross. Even here in the Buy and Sell area, we are selling items and getting cash for it. If Korea was that strict, I would think that we wouldn't be able to do this.

Thanks, #2 is what I was curious about. I'm assuming most employers say no to this idea. I just have a feeling I'm gonna get put into a situation where I'm not really teaching, so would like to do privates.

Why do you assume your employer will say no?

Also, why or how could you be put in a situation where you are not really teaching? Aren't you here on an E-2 with a teaching job full time?

By the way you cannot get permission to teach privates on an E-2. In fact you cannot legally teach privates at all.

False. You can teach privates if your boss gives you permission AND you report your earnings, so that they can be taxed.

I realized this may not be the best place to post this question, and I even resorted to flattery to try to get an answer. Oh well. I guess I'll post again in a few years with one of those "Coming back to Korea" threads.

Somebody on this forum has to know SOMETHING on this subject though! Take the E2 blinders off and let us know!
