Okay, so I've been trying to apply for the EPIK program here in Jeju. I've already taught here a year and I'd like to stay, but I want to join the public system. I've already handed in my application to a fairly reputable recruiter, but I just talked to a friend of mine who has some experience with the EPIK system here and she says I should apply to the local EPIK office directly because the recruiter will hook me into the national EPIK system but won't necessarily land me a job here in Jeju. She says the local EPIK office will hire locally before they'll even start contacting recruiters. The thing is, I'm pretty cure I read on another thread that it's bad mojo to apply through a recruiter AND apply directly to EPIK. Seems like I read that if you do that, they'll just toss your application for trying to have it both ways or something. Is that correct? My friend told me she doesn't think that's true and even if it were, I could always just say I'm turning in an amended application. Please advise on this one, because if applying directly to the local EPIK office will increase my chances of getting the job and staying here, I'll do it Tuesday.

Thanks in advance.

I don't know about applying both to the EPIK head office and via a recruiter. But what about speaking to the Jeju POE directly?

Check out http://native.jje.go.kr/

On the website under "About Us" and "Organization" you should find the contact info for Ria Kim, the Coordinator for Native Foreign Language teachers. She is usually pretty busy, but she might be one to help answer your questions on how best to apply.

Good luck.
