Hi. I graduate on the 19th of November, and this will mean that I finally have all the documents that I need to apply for my Visa (my subject access form came thru the post today!). I would like to be teaching in South Korea as soon as possible after this date, ideally in December, so I have a couple of questions:
-Firstly, is it at all possible that I could pull this off? Is it a reasonable time period?
-Secondly, what would be the best way to go about doing this? I suppose it would be by contacting some recruiters and explaining my situation. Of course there are a lot of recruiters, so I were hoping that I could have a couple suggested to me that have a good reputation. I searched the forum for a discussion about recruiters, but failed to find a half decent one so im sorry if this has already been asked.
Thanks for reading and any answers! |

1. To which queston do you want an answer?
2. Number two depends on number one. |

I'm getting the idea that you're going to tell the truth to the recruiters about yourself. Will this will be followed by telling employers the truth about yourself? First of all, they will pay you LESS if you tell them you just graduated.
Don't tell them anything. Tell them you've been teaching for 2 years. ANYTHING. Don't give them a reason to look down upon you before you even set foot in the country.
My two cents. Good luck. |

I would like an answer to both. However, if the answer to the first question is 'No. There is not enough time to be teaching in December if you graduate on the 19th.' then i guess the second question dont need answering!
I suppose also, I were asking which recruiters are either renowned for being good with clients, or which recruiters members on here have had a good relationship with first hand. This way il feel happier applying for a job through these agencies as I dont want to try and deal with lots at once. |

You feel I should outright just lie? Hmmmm, not sure that's the best idea, but then what do I know...
If I were to tell them I had been teaching already, wouldn't they want references from previous employers? |

Chrisguy, I didn't mean to tell you to do something that is unethical. Forget what I said if it makes you feel uncomfortable. It's just that from my experiences here, lying is socially acceptable in Korea - especially in business.
Don't get caught with the shortest straw. |

my opinion,
most recruiter/school will want to see a copy of your diploma before hiring you
so I wouldnt contact them until I can provide a copy,
let say you tell them you dont have your diploma yet (it's coming in a couple of weeks) what do you think most recruiters will do?
most likely put your application to the bottom of the pile and focus on someone who can, because a lot of job are for immediate position
a lot of schools/hagwons will tell the recruiters they need a teacher ASAP, a lot of recruiters will not bother with any applicants who arent ready
so wait until you have your diploma - a lot of jobs are for immediate opening, if schools like you, it wouldnt take long from the moment you send out your resume to you flying off to Korea
but there are some things you can (should) do now ~
get your criminal check (CRC)
get your transcript ready
get any other documents (passport, etc) ready
like I said, the hiring process can really be quick |

"Oh what a tangled web we weave, When first we practice to deceive
Sir Walter Scott
just my opinion; stay away from lying ... not only for ethical reason, but for your sake/integrity
and as the quote says - what if you have to keep the charade up for a long time, people will ask you about the 2 years, where did you teach, what did you teach, how was it, etc.
and if you got found out ...
if you did some informal teaching or tutoring, by all mean mention those - and make it sound impressive
but it's pretty pointless to say that you have 2 years teaching experience in Korea or any other country when you just graduated this year ... and practically you cant teach without a degree/diploma
your integrity might come to question ... not worth it
you could sell yourself high without lying |

Hey. Thanks for the advice. Im glad to hear that the process moves so fast. I do have all my other documents together (like I mentioned earlier, my subject access form (which is the background check) came thru earlier today)... I need to take my transcripts back to the university however as they didn't send them properly, but that's not too important now.
I think il steer clear of saying iv taught before too, im not a very good liar as it is. Instead il mention how I tought younger students at my old 6th form on their residential, its only a little experience but its better than nothing.
Thanks for the advice!
With the 'Who is a good recruiter?' thing, iv heard mentioned before 'If the person you talk to sounds decent, they probably are.' does that rule tend to hold true? |

The whole visa process took about 2 months for me. This included getting all of the correct documentation, also waiting for the school to get all of the correct documentation on their end. I didn't go through a recruiter, so definitely follow the other guy's advice.
I imagine you have this information?
