Hi guys,
I'm in a serious bind with my passport. I originally applied for an expedited passport in mid-July. I had also lost my license so I had applied for a TX state license about a week before (that takes 6 weeks to show up). I didn't want to wait around for my license to get the passport so I went to my local post office with my birth certificate and a lot of other proof of identity information. The guy at the post office said I should have either a passport or a request for more info within 3 weeks.
4 weeks later, no passport. 10 weeks later, no passport. In the meantime, I'm calling the National Passport Info line almost every day and getting the same non-reply- "it's processing". I asked several times if they needed more documentation (since I had my license by this point)- they said I would get a letter if this were the case. I even submitted and signed a request for help with my state rep's office but they can take two months to work on a case. Finally on Thursday I got a letter saying I needed to send in more documentation and a new passport. The letter included a return envelope for the passport agency in Houston marked "attn: suspense".
OK, fine. I ordered a new birth certificate from the state of GA (should be here by Weds) and have pages and pages of identifying info from the list they sent me. The thing is, I can't wait another 10 1/2 weeks for the office to pull their ^%$ together and give me my passport. I have a job that starts Dec 1.
Do any of you know:
1. How long it should take to receive a passport once I've sent in my additional docs and new passport? Has anyone been in this situation and did it happen quickly or slowly?
2. If I can just go to Houston, do the 24 hour processing thing, and just pay for a brand new passport application? With my birth certificate and license the application should be accepted immediately.
Any information or personal experience you can share will be extremely helpful. |
