I did a windows update and I think that I will live to regret that!
A popup window says I have 30 days to activate, if not this copy will not work anymore.
Are there any ways to stop this from happening without paying the money to Microsoft? I plan on buying Windows 7 after a while just to let it work out its kinks, I do not want to have to pay for XP until then.
Ideas? |

Go ahead and try to activate. If it fails you can go to the Microsoft website. They will ask you a series of questions. Answer as if you've made a recent hardware change. You will be validated. |

Of course if you have a dud CDkey you're in trouble.
One thing you should do, though it won't help you now, is save your validation key files in case you need them in the future.
You should take this chance to back up all your data. |

Do a torrent search for Windows Genuine Advantage (I'm assuming that's what the pop-up says) download the crack and you'll be fine. |
