|
|
I'm a non-Canadian flying to Canada from Korea. I'm one of the countries who qualifies as visa-exempt for Canada.
I have a one way ticket into Canada and no ticket out at this time. I've been advised booking a flight from within Canada is going to be much cheaper than booking it from Korea.
Would there be any issues at CAN immigration that I don't have an exit ticket? (Canadian consulte don't take phone inquiries and I have no time to wait for an email response).
Thanks!

I just came back from Canada...you don't even see immigration officials. Get your ticket, go through the metal detectors and your in the waiting area getting your last Tim Horton's coffee before you catch your flight.
Unlike other countries where you sometimes have to wait once for the bag search, and wait again for the officials to stamp your passport, you have it easy back home. So, no worries. |

Of course you see the immigration official when you go to canada. Someone needs to stamp your passport if youre not from canada. Im not sure what the person above is talking about.. My wife goes through immigration officials all the time when we go to canada together. They almost always call me to make sure my wife is telling the truth...
If i were you id buy a 2 way ticket ( since you're not canada), i wouldnt take the risk.
YOu need a buy a return ticket to korea or somewhere else?
I can tell you that if you buy a one way ticket to korea from canada its going to cost you as much and possibly more than a 2 way ticket. I just bought a 2 way ticket from canada to korea for 1200$ cnd with insurance. I checked the price of a 1 way ticket and it was above 1200$+. My wife can buy one way tickets to canada in korea for about 800 000 won. As far as i can tell if you want one way tickets it seems to be cheaper in korea... But other people on here might have different experience.

The one way ticket to Canada in was paid for by me employer. The question is whether I have to buy the exit ticket in Korea or if I can buy it in Canada at a better price.
And, JJJ, I am not Canadian so not sure if I will also experience lax immigration procedure. |

Id buy in korea if you need to pay for a 1 way ticket. I was looking for a 1 way ticket in canada and they are too expensive.. YOu could try travel agencies in chinatown if your going to toronto but i wouldnt trust those ( but they are cheap). Honestly If you you do make it through with a 1 way ticket in canada, you might want to buy a 2 way ticket in canada cuz itll be cheaper than the 1 way ticket slightly ( even if you arent going to use the return). At least thats what most of the travel agencies told me when I tried to buy the one way ticket.
Just buy it in korea.. itll either be similar price or maybe slightly cheaper and itll save you from possibly not being let into the country. |

they'll probably let you in without an onward ticket. but be prepared to answer a lot of questions. about what you plan to do, where you'll be staying, how much money you have, etc.
it doesn't matter what kind of ticket you have or where you bought it, just so long as it leaves the country. that's all canadian immigration cares about.
can you buy an online refundable bus ticket to america? |

Why not buy your ticket for leaving Canada online at aircanada.ca before you go? That way you might get a good price, since it'll be competitive with other prices you could get in Canada. They sometimes have international sales on flights out of Canada.
When are you hoping to fly back from Canada? The website also lets you sign up for notification of sales to select locations (I know my mom has Seoul listed as one of her preferred destinations, and tracks the ticket prices that way).
Above posters are correct, though: an exiting ticket will save you a lot of questions and hassle at immigration.
**just checked Air Canada's website and wanted to include this link: http://www.aircanada.com/en/offers/air/asia_sep09/asia_sep09.html
Looks like there are some pretty good prices if you book before 28 October (and remember, these prices are in Canadian dollars, although you'll still have to pay taxes and fuel surcharges...) |

Immigration isn't the first problem you may have. The airline you take to Canada may not let you get on the plane without an onward or return flight.
My understanding is that the airline is liable if you are rejected on arrival at immigration due to no outbound flight. They are then responsible to get you out. |

| Just call the airline and ask them, their customer service people will know. Should have a 24h line listed on the website. |
