I'm teaching split schedules (first class at 7 a.m., last class at 9 p.m.) and it's starting to wear me out pretty badly. I used to get 7-8 hours back home but these days I'm averaging 6 hours a night, plus a 30 minute nap in the afternoon. Yet, most of my Korean coworkers sleep even less. Some of them are sleeping 4-5 hours a night.

I read a study that Korean ranks last among 18 OECD countries in amount of sleep. It ranks 1st in amount of time spent at work (and around the top at studying), yet their productivity is 27th out of 30 OECD countries.

All I can say is, these days I live only for the weekend.

I'm so glad I don't do split shifts! I usually get 7-9 hours of sleep a night, and I sleep better here than I did back home, even though my bed is way harder here.

I work 8:30 to 6:30, then i go work out or meet friends. I make it a rule to be in bed by 12 on weekdays (and no getting drunk on weeknights), and I sleep great, at least 7 hours a night. Then I stay out late and sleep in on the weekends.

But I really have no idea how my coworkers can live on 4-5 hours of sleep and getting drunk 2-3 nights a week. Maybe it's why they're all stressed, haggard, and overweight.

TRY to be in bed by 12. Going to bed at 11 is so nice if I can manage it.

If I get 7 hours I am good to go

I sleep like crap.

Outside my Hasook Jib is a couple of room salons, a few anmas, convenience stores and a few old school style korean restaurants. From wednesday to sunday during the night they are packed. Last night there was a rip roaring fight. Some Korean broad was shrieking like a psycho at a man (husband?).

I guess I shouldn't complain. It is kinda entertaining observing the throngs of ajossis in a drunken stupor outside the salons.

The price is right in the Hasook as well.

Wow you're all so lucky! I get 6 hours max during the week, most of the time only 5 Crying or Very sad I just wish there was a way to put in an hour nap during lunch break (I could do that when I had my own office). I really can't recommend doing the salaryman routine here, though some of my Korean colleagues get even less sleep (and look like it in the morning). Having to get out of bed 2.5 hours before work starts stinks.

OTOH I haven't had more than 6 hours since 1995, entirely my own fault though.

i sleep about 6-7, but that's what i'm used to. i work late (2-9/3-10) so i do partake in the weekday fun now and again, but even if i get home really late i can still get enough sleep to feel perfectly fine for work the next day. just have to take it easy.

i would never be able to work a public. i've always been a night person.

I sleep from about 12-1 (sometimes 2am) and then wake up at 7am to get ready for work...I work in a middle school and work 830-430

even when I worked in a hagwon for 2 years and worked 2 or 3 till 7-9pm I still would only get about 6 hours sleep...sometimes I could sleep for 8....

Smile
8 hours of sleep a night would be great (sigh)

after only ever working 9-5 type hours, i first had the luxury of a 1-8 in my first job. i slept great. i would get up around 1130 or 12 everyday and have 8 or 8hrs a night. i could even go out on a weeknight, if i wanted, get home at 4 and still get 8 hours.

these days i start work at 930. usually get around 7 hours a night. its ok. but the devil in me wishes i could go a bit crazy on weeknights now and again, but i just cant hack going to work hungover, and i have SOME moral sense. cant be breathing alcohol into little chae won's face.

I have the 2-8pm shift.... it kicks ass... Was getting 10 hrs sleep, but then I started setting my alarm to cut it back to 9 hrs Shocked I have trouble getting to sleep at night time because I get too much sleep... hence feeling the need to get more sleep each night...

4-5 hours. It's gotta change soon or I'm going to have a mental breakdown.

I try to be in bed at 10:30 (up at 6:40), but lately I've been finding it impossible to sleep! I read to help put myself to sleep, but it's usually 11:30 or 12 before I can pass out. I try to pass out at school from 3:35-4:20 and sleep on my 30 minute bus ride, so that helps a bit.
