Hi,

Anyone know how little I can get a return on the slow ferry to Fukuoka from Busan for? Can anyone give me a link to the deal. Is it better to book from the ferry terminal or go through an agent.

The Camellia Line is the ferry that goes to Fukuoka (usually referred to as Hakata) and according to the Korean site it's W90,000 for a single, W171,000 for a return. I'd be surprised if you can get that any cheaper by booking through an agent, but I've never actually tried it.

If you start a return trip in Japan, it sometimes works out cheaper to buy a single from Hakata and then another single back from Busan as in Japan they tend not to give discount on a return ticket - it's just 2x the single fare. But if, as I assume, you're doing a round trip from Busan then you're best off getting a return ticket in Korea.

Mouse over 여객안내 and then click on 운임 및 일정

BTW, there's also a daily overnight ferry to Shimonoseki from Busan. It's slightly more expensive at W180,500 for a return ticket. Shimonoseki is handier for travel to Japan other than in Kyushu (the island Fukuoka is on), but it's nearly 2 hours by local train or 30 minutes by shinkansen away from Fukuoka.

They often have special deals on the more expensive Jetfoil fares, but I'm not aware of any such discounts on the slow ferry.

I went for about that price as well, 7200 yen from Shimonoseki Port to Busan Port.
