My school was closed on Monday October 5th for Chuseok.
Technically Oct 5th isn't a national holiday so my school
said they cannot pay me for that day. Can they do that when
I'm on a salary?
Not really sure what to think...

i havent heard of public schools doing that. hagwons maybe, but thats pretty low - even for them. they can try, but youre on a monthly salary and you were at work whenever you were scheduled to be there so i would fight it. one line you could use is that the students still paid their monthly fees - did you refund all of them for that one day? if they say yes, ask for proof.....then you can see some sparks fly.

Good point! Unfortunately I just read in my contract:

4.2. School closing day.
Following the school schedule, there will be some school closing day (not national holiday) will be unpaid vacation, since Employee has a day off.

So I guess they have me there. My salary is paid to me through a company
that plays the middle man between my public school and I. : (

That is the most stupid thing that I have ever heard. If this is a PS just state that this was a day off and the school was not even open so how could I even go to work. I can't think that this is a ps saying this!! Is it? If a Hagwon then all bets are off and this is the crap that you have to deal with. Hagwon's there are only two kinds I have been here for 5years. There are really good and the really bad. The middle road are not in existance.

It's a public school!!! .. but the company I deal with is ASN international.
I'm finding out more and more horrible information about them. I've only
been working for them since September.

How did they calculate the amount to subtract? 1/31? 1/20? Does it stipluate in your contract how many hours per week or month you are supposed to work.

What about the days when the students have testing? sports days? school picnics or trips? Are those also unpaid vacation for you? That could add up to a lot of days over the course of a school year.

You can be sure that ASN is still being paid.......

ASN = screwed

Everyone I know who has worked fro ASN has gotten shafted in some way. Be careful and expect problems.
