I was waiting at a bus stop when two dogs (Cocker Spaniels I think) ran from out of nowhere and started jumping around. Their owner wasn't anywhere around and they were wearing those dog clothes. My guess is that they somehow escaped and don't get out too often because they looked like they were having the time of their lives.

Well anyway one of them kept jumping out into the traffic (both of them did not seem to be scared of cars at all), then it jumped out right infront of an incoming bus and got squashed under the tires. It made a horrible "yip!" then I heard some crunching sounds. The other dog must've been shocked as hell because it bolted away from the scene into incoming traffic but luckily didn't get hit. The bus driver was nice enough to stop to move the corpse, which was all twisted up. I tried to look for a tag with info so I can contact the owner but there was none.

This really sucked because I'm partial to dogs and the ease in which it was killed disturbed me. It was in a residential area with little traffic and the traffic wasn't going that fast. It could have easily been a child under that bus. What would you have done in that situation? I waited a little bit for the owner to come running so I could tell him/her what happened but he/she never came.

That's awful. Saw this kind of thing quite often in the Philippines. People just let their dogs roam. The side streets can have quite a few loose dogs. The main roads hardly any - either because the owners know their dogs will get killed and they keep them contained or they actually do get killed.

I saw a dead cat in the gutter the other day. It was a bummer. It looked like a healthy, well-cared for animal, except for being dead. The colour and style were not like typical cats in Korea. It probably belonged to a military family. (Half a block from the Yongsan base. If you live in that area and lost a Russian blue recently, I am very very sorry.)

I've been seeing lots of dead rats/mice/birds around too. What's up with all the dead animals? Sad

this is a horrible story for me, because i have two puppies. Brown poodles. They are great, fluffy, and awesome. I've tried my best to teach them not to run out into the road, and I think they realize that cars are bad. But when they were younger I was walking with them down the sidewalk near a semi-busy street, and they saw a kid on the other side of the road. One of them just darted out into the street to sniff the kid on the other side, and cars were coming. I yelled at them to get back over here and thankfully he did. Then I yelled at him some more to try to get him to remember to not jump out into the road.

Also, another time, my dogs were daredevil bastards. There was a car coming down a side street, walking speed. I told my puppies to get over here by me, and one did. The other one ran straight at the car, toward its wheel. It got as close as it dared, sniffed the wheel for like a split second, and jumped out of the way. I was almost dying from a heart attack. The driver stopped and was also almost dying from a heart attack, and didn't start up again until I picked up the puppies into my arm (yes they both fit on one arm). I couldn't pick them up at first though because I was too busy trying to beat their little stupid puppy butts into the ground for scaring me like that.

Yeah, I have leashes, but have you ever tried to walk TWO dogs with leashes? Now that they have survived their stupid puppyhoods, they come when I call, usually trail me on a road, and give cars a respectfully wide berth. I think its alright now.

Quote of the week:

Sorry, I shouldn't laugh, I saw a kitty get squished under the wheel of a car really close up once; it was horrible, went into convulsions and death throes. Never want to see that again.

That sucks. Russian Blues are beautiful animals and if I ever get a cat, that's the breed I would want the most. I see a lot of dead birds too but I always assume it was the work of a cat.

I hope. I thought about just going and thought somebody else might contact the owner then remembered "diffusion of responsibility" from my Psych class. With no collar, I really didn't know what else to do though. Although I feel sorry for the owner who just lost two dogs in one day, I feel it's his respondiblity to make sure his dogs don't pull stuff like that or at least have information on them when they go out.

Stray dogs and cats probably get run over all the time but knowing they were somebody's pets makes it worse for me.

I saw a dog get sideswipped by a bus here in 2004, the driver not even slowing down, before or after:

Korean bali bali attitude and the gtfoomw bus driver king license-to-speed attitude
+
the general societal disregard for the welfare of dogs
=
bus hits dog in Korea often no mere "accident"

Don't blame the drivers and don't blame Koreans. If you have a pet...keep it on a leash. If not then you're to blame.

About 4 years ago I sort of saw the same thing, except it was a car and a little kid. The way the kid flew and the way he rolled he was dead on impact. i saw the whole thing.

The driver wasn't going that fast, yet he was charged and had to pay huge $$. The kid just ran out infront of his car. Even if Superman would have been behind the wheel he wouldn't have had the reaction time to slow down.

Who's to blame? The idiot parents who let their 5 year old run onto a busy road during rush hour.

Yet the poor schmuch went to jail. When I went to the police station as a witness they wouldn't even talk to me cause it's automatically the driver's fault. Traffic laws in this country are retarded.

My question to the OP is; How long did it take for ajumma to come out with a spatula and scoop up the remains to make soup?

Got to be honest about it.

I was driving home late one night (bout 2am) in a really bad area, a dog shout out from a, what looked like a gang house and I hit it. Wheels went right over the head. Jumped out and made sure it was dead (it was). I knew what house it came from but there was no way I was going to knock on their door.

Unleased dogs get hit, it happens, it's sad but nothing you can do. At least the bus driver stopped
