I already have a Korean drivers licence for a car, but I heard recently that the law is going to change on the 125cc bikes next year so everyone will need a license.

I live in Itaewon and wondering where to go and do the road test to get my motorbike license.

I heard all you have to do is a ridiculous road test and if you pass that you get one. Is this true? For all you guys out there that have bigger than a 125cc bike, could you let me know what to expect and where I can take the test that is closest to Itaewon?

Thanks for your help.

I did and passed the test in Ansan, near Jungang Station, I just exchanged my Canadian license for a Korean one and then did a driving test.

I thought the test was VERY easy and passed no problem, but I would say most of the Koreans there failed. I'm thinking if you have experience driving a bike you will have no problem, just get accustomed to the bike before the first maneuver.

It started off with a straight z (2 90 degree curves) that u can't touch sides, then a long S (same no touching), then u have to go straight (not much wider then the tire), and then round the pylons (Easy curves).

Anyway I think it was easy.

I thought it was pretty easy as well. I was like #45 out of around 60 people that day. Myself and one other Korean dude that was on his 3rd attempt passed the test. It was pure comedy!! Most people didn't have a clue how to ride. No balance, pulling wheelies, dropping the bike, not following the course and just going for a tour, the list goes on. It was so fun, cuz all the dudes waiting to do their test were cheering each other on. Then a big 'Ohhh' and applause for everyone when they failed. They were all amazed that I passed on my first go at it.

I'll never forget that day!! Laughing

where is the nearest place to do the test near Itaewon? Anyone know? I am a very experienced rider and sounds pretty easy, but apparently they give you their crappy heavy bikes to learn on.

Not sure where the closest one to Itaewon is. You don't (atleast I nor anyone else the day i went did) have any chance to practice with the bike at the test centre. Just show up, wait your turn (watch the hilarity unfold in front of you) and then do your test. You are allowed to bring your own bike if you like, but that didn't seem to help the clowns that did!! The bike I did it on was a Daelim 250cc piece of shit.....not heavy, but definitely crappy.

It's not that I don't believe you, but which testing center was this? When? What are the rules on bringing your own bike? You have a link, even if it's in Korean?

Once again, it's not that I don't believe you, but this is impossible. Daelim does not make a 250cc motorcycle. They do make a 250cc scooter. Did you take your test on a scooter?Wink

edit: I stand corrected. As of June, 2009 Daelim does indeed make a 250 motorcycle! A single cylinder with EFI. I'm very curious, indeed.

Daelim makes a couple different 250cc sport bikes; however, you're right, he's probably talking about a 250cc HyoSung Mirage which seems to be pretty standard at testing facilities.

Actually Daelim makes 1 250cc sport bike and it came out a few months back so there is no way they have one yet. Probably Hyos or Yamaha Virago 250s.

And I've never seen anyone bring their own bike, I asked if I could, but was told no.

As for practice...I practiced in the parking lot before the test.

Fun times, the Korean guys were indeed a cheery bunch. Good memory.

Passo has at least two listed, one of which has been around for a few years at least. I can't remember the models offhand.

No link, sorry dude. I did it 4 years ago at the testing center in Naju, Jeollonamdo. A guy showed up with bikes in the back of his truck and used it for the test (and failed as he couldnt stay between the lines).

Good to know. IMO, it makes a huge difference if you test on a bike you're familiar with. Also, it seems some testing centers let you practice a bit. People should find one of these sites.

Kudos to all the guys who passed on their first try. I sure didn't. Embarassed

Unfortunately I have to pull the nerd card here...I know for a fact that the new 250 VJF is the first 250 sport bike they have produced. They made a 250 scooter and possibly a 250 quad, but never a 250 sport bike until a few months back.

There can be only 1!!!! (now what movie is tha line from?)
