|
|
My school handler told me today that GEPIK is cutting budgets so up to 40 (or maybe more) schools will not realistically be able to afford NTs next year, mine included.
Anyone else had this information, or is it just my school?
How does this affect longer term teachers who wanted to stay at their school? (Will they get the boot?) |

Our GEPIK coordinator said the same thing.
I'm not worried. |

I am starting to think we need to just go where the money is. |

In this global economy, school boards around the world are cutting budgets drastically. It was the same in the US which is one of the secondary reasons I left for Korea. |

GEPIK is cutting budget next year. We have been warned if we are not teaching at least 22 hours/week discuss it with our schools, because they'll be the first on the chopping block. |

LOL... you will be 'cut', but in the same budget your school will get W80,000,000 to spend on construction/equipping an 'English room' with the latest, 'high tech' crap (that doesn't work)... and will never be used by the K English teachers (who can't speak English). |

They're also pushing renewals as opposed to new recruits, so. |

God only knows. Where I'm from "renewals" is antithetical to "cuts". |

I suppose because then the school will save the recruiting fee. I believe it's up to 1.2m now. |

But any money spent on the recruiting fee will be offset by being able to pay a new teacher less than a more experienced one. |

Also the public school doesn't pay, they get funded for it all. So, they just do what is easiest. They don't operate like hagwons do. Hagwons will try to have the teacher get a replacement because they foot the bill. |
