One of my classes got the news that we lost one of their classmates.

Not wanting go to into detail because of the emotional hurt we are all feeling now, you know.... it's really difficult to discuss with 7 year-old kids about the loss of human life.

It reminded me strongly of something in my childhood:

I cry even as I type this.

Wow, that's horrible. I understand you don't want to get into detail, but I just want to say I'm sorry this has happened.

Yikes, sorry.

Lost a middleschool student to suicide this year, it was heart-wrenching. Her classmates wailed at her funeral (cathartic) & they were sensitive for a week, but kids & life move on.

I am sad for you. I can understand how you feel.

I do not know how this accidebnt occured, but I have seen kids here just run across the street and not even look. I see kids maybe 3 years old outside alone, or running 30 feet in front of their parents. I have seen babies left alone in shopping carts, and we all see litttle kids with no seat belts jumping in cars. I sure am not perfect, but when my kids were little I certainly did not let them run wild.

When the kids inb your class calm down, you can talk about safety.
