|
|
I'm new to the site, and have tried searching for the answer, but no luck.
The school (hagwon) wants me to come to Korea and work on a tourist visa at first. Once I come, the school would finish my teaching visa and send me to Japan to complete the whole process.
During my time on a tourist visa, I would be working, but not getting paid.
After I obtain the teaching visa, the school would pay me for my time I worked without the visa.
Is this a normal thing?
Any suggestions?
Thanks! |

its illegal. also if you have never worked in korea you will most likely have to get your e-2 visa from your home country, not japan. you will most likely be required to have an interview. also, there is a 'jobs forum' where this will get more attention. |

Ha Ha,
This is a sign of disorganisation.
Don't fall for it...when they eventually sign you up for your visa you will need all of your documents apostilled. Your visa and work will officially start not on the day you came to Korea but on the day you registered it.
Therefore at the end of the year what should have been a simple thing to finish turns into a difficult one. They don't have to pay you severance until you have legally and officially done a year's work according to the contract. Your one year plane ticket however may expire before your work visa and contract and you will need to finish these to the day to get severance.
An onward or refundable ticket would solve this problem. |

Don't do it. You will be free labor and they will never arrange for a regular visa nor will they pay you. And if you get caught, the only thing you will have accomplished is making life harder for those of us here working legally. |
