I'm set on spending my winter break traveling w/in Korea. I live in Wonju and have done Seoul to death. I've also seen Seorak-san and Gyeongju. Any suggestions/ recommendations? I'm more a history/art guy than a metro guy but flexible.
Right now I'm thinking head south through An-dong, get some soju and hit that museum, then brief stay in Busan, along the west to Gwangju and see the ruralism ... then back north, maybe stopping in the big temple (name forgotten) by Cheongju ...
Suggestions? Little-known places I should hit? |

I guess a smart-ass would say the best 2 week winter trip for Korea would include...Thailand, but hey, I won't say that 'cause I'm a helpful kinda guy....
Andong is OK for a day. The famous soju from there is actually like Chinese maotai-not a compliment in my books. Goje-do, w/its POW museum, is worth a look if you're a Korean War buff. If you haven't been to the DMZ, I HIGHLY recommend a tour. |

You should see the mask museum in Andong, worth the trip. Gyeongju has enough sights for 3 days or so, Gonju and Buyeo both have some cool national museums and fortress grounds worth hiking to see the on-ground temples and such. The southern cities of Yeoju and Mokpo also have some incredible coastlines. |
