I arrived in Hong Kong today and someone on the plane told me I could go to Shenzhen on a 5 day special shenzhen only visa. Much to my surprise at the border they gave me a 90 day double entry tourist visa for 100 dollars U.S.
Here is the easy way to do it- fly to Hong Kong and dont go through customs after arriving in H.K. go to the E1 ferry counter and buy a ticket to Shekou China which is a suburb of Shenzhen. They will send your luggage from the plane to Shekou.
When you arrive in China go to the counter that says visas. Have 680 rmb on you plus some extra for the taxi. They give you a 3 month visa with 2 entries for the same price as you get a one month single entry in Korea and it only took me 20 minutes.
Shekou is very western and is a good starting place for China. Go to "sea world" there just after the ferry and just near the dunkin donuts is a corner store that gives very good rates on U.S. dollars.
Hk double exchanges money so its a rip off in Hk. ie they go from US>H.k.> Chinese.
make sure you take a taxi with a meter from the ferry and avoid the guys with private cars. Sea world is only 3 minutes by taxi, but the hotels are expensive 80-100 US a night. another 5 minutes up the road by taxi and any hotel goes down to about 30 U.S. a night. |

Chinese visas are complicated. Depends very much on your nationality. US & UK citizens don't get such a good deal. From memory, I paid around $30 US for a 30 day visa (I'm Australian), so $100 US for a 90 day double entry visa, is a good deal. Well done, DD!
