|
|
I am going to be changing planes in Hong Kong, and I'll have a 6 hour layover. I was thinking about trying to go into Hong Kong even just to walk the streets for 30 minutes of 1 hour. I don't know anything about Hong Kong, or how far the aiport is from the center, or how easily one can go back and forth to the airport so could anyway tell me if this idea of mine is possible, and if it's a good idea, or a bad idea? any additional info would also be great. |

Takes close to an hour to get into the central district. Take the airport train, I think it costs about $100 HKD (round-trip I think). Depends on how fast you clear customs, you can quite possible have at best 2.5 hours of time to walk around. Realistically maybe 1.5 to 2 hours.
I'd try to get back to the airport with at least 1 hours to spare, if you already have your ticket already for your connecting flight. If you don't, get back to the airport earlier. |

6 hours is not enough time to leave as you need to be in 2 hours before a flight these days. Just chill and save yourself the headache of clearing customs and the departure tax when you try to come back. |

If you have 4 hours until your next flight, I say go for it. Snap a few pics, maybe down a bubble drink, and then back to the airport. I think 6 hours is enough time, that is if you already get your tickets for your connecting flight in-hand before you get into Hong Kong. Alliance partners ticket all the way to your destination within a 24 hour period, so no need to wait in line to get a ticket, just head straight to gates. Just wondering what airlines you will be taking? |

instead of going all the way into central HK you could take the cable car from near the airport (I think its called Nong Ping 360 or something, just google hong kong airport cable car) which takes you up to the worlds largest seated buddha, its quite impressive.
This is all presuming you're arriving during the day. |

All great information. I have a few other questions. If I check my baggage at my previous airport will it be able to remain checked even if I leave the airport, or will I have to get it and bring it with me? Also which station would be the best one to go to? Hong Kong Station, Kowloon Station?? |
