Hi folks.

I am struggling to decide on which PDF/E-book reader I want to buy.
At first, the Kindle 2 looked great, until I found out that you can only read Amazon products. What rubbish. It's like buying a Yamaha scooter and them saying you can only use Yamaha fuel.

The Nuutboek/Nuutbook, which is available here in Korea seems great too, except for the bad quality music player.

Anyway, then the Sony PSR 707. I have read conflicting reports regarding the pdf downloads. Some say you have to purchase pdf's, others say you don't. So it has the same issue as the Kindle, or not.... confusion.
Also, it doesn't seem to be that fast. Is this true? And does anyone have an idea of the music quality?

ALL I WANT:

Is a decent pdf reader, that will take any pdf I copy onto the memory card, that has a large-ish display, with decent sound output. Colour options would be a bonus.

Any ideas? Much appreciated.

Just buy a cheap netbook laptop? Why would you want anything else. You can get a 12-14 inch laptop for 300$

I just bought the Sony Touch Edition of their e-reader. It was $300 in the US. I think it's great. The Sony ebook store is okay. Google books has plenty of public domain books that I can download onto my reader for FREE! (can't do that with the Kindle). The fact that the Sony reader is touch screen means that I can highlight text and make notes in the margins too. Also, I can handwrite notes on separate blank "pages." So, I also use it for my daily lists of things to do. A friend of mine has the Kindle and I feel like I got a much better deal with the Sony (the touch screen edition NOT the pocket edition).

And, as far as PDFs go...no purchasing them, no installing extra software, no converting files, just upload and read. The Sony will let you zoom using a slide bar and rotate the document.

A laptop gets hot and it is difficult to take into bed.

Another thing is the battery time and the light intensity.
