Does anyone know where I can get my hands on some simple short stories for elementary students? My school has a literacy day tomorrow and everything I have produced appears to be too difficult, according to my co-teacher (paraphrasing: theyre thick as pig s***). Although I think she would be pleasantly surprised if she listened to them read. The stuff she has suggested is mind numbingly tedious, look at the picture, describe it, read Whats that? Its an orange x 5. Maybe I dont know my students well enough, as my co-teacher has been here for 2+ years, but its not challenging whatsoever. If I was 13, Id switch off straight away at the sight of it. So has anyone got any suggestions? Id like it to be interesting, yet fairly simple. I cant find any EFL specific story sites. Ive got a few poems, so hopefully thatll keep some interest up.

Cheers.

How about "Green Eggs and Ham"? Lots of repeated words. Another Seuss book (though maybe by another of his names) is something like, "Are You My Mother?".

Go to Resources - Reading and Stories - Leveled Readers on EFL Classroom 2.0. Lots of readers at the appropriate level. Print and fold.

Extensive reading at the right level, is great for students and should be encouraged by all teachers.
