Hmm. So I've been in Korea for 3 years now and I find that I'm getting sick more and more often. My diet isn't the best but I'm sure that I get a decent smattering of everything (i.e., I don't have scurvy). I do drink a bit, but usually on the weekends. My biggest problem, I think, is that I do stay up rather late, especially recently with the whole Ka-brew thing. That doesn't explain why I've basically been getting sick every 2 months for the past 6 months though.
Any advice or is it just time to see a doctor? |

| Lack of sleep will do it. If I let myself get overtired too much I'll inevitably get sick. Keep in mind that we as teachers are getting exposed to every kind of germ there is all the time. |

These suggestions are probably obvious, but get enough sleep, use hand sanitizer often, drink water as you teach (coats the throat and flushes out the system), don't share soups/dishes at meals.
Many clinics have this things called Miles Cocktail, it's a mineral/vitamin IV infusion that helps boost the immune system. You can do it once or several times. I was in bed for 9 days with some flu-like illness and I'm pretty sure having this was the turning point for me. It costs 50,000. May be worth considering. |

8 hours sleep per night
Balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruit and veg
Exercise 3X a week
Drink more water than coffee or alcahol
Keep off the cigarettes.
The above should fix/ stave off just about any minor ailment there is going. |

| Give acupuncture a go. I was sick for almost a month when i came back to korea. I went to the dr a few times, he gave me bags of unidentifiable pills that did nothing and made me feel worse. I tired some acupuncture and after about 4 sessions i was feeling great. and i havent had so much as a snivel in over 6 months! |

Hi There,
Be sure not to drink the tap water or accept ice in your drinks/ consume water from just anywhere.
Drink plenty of clean water.
Avoid PS school food if you are eating it. Careful of the water filters at school they can be a little problematic at times of the year. Do taste comparisons and help yourself where it tastes the cleanest or take your own.
So yeah increase water greatly but ensure it is all clean.
Seafood and even some veg can be iffy here in my case (just personal experience). If it is hot when it is served or it is boiled usually it can not give you bugs.
Get a humidifyer and or plants for your apartment if you don't normally use one in the winter.
Dress warmly and seeing the doctor won't hurt if you must you can take some cough syrup /antibiotics.
Don't be afraid to see the chinese herbalist though but they can be pricey but good. Especially if you tend to revisit the doctor.
Good breakfast (wish I could take my own advice here). You could get a decent vitamin from home (one which the body can absorb). If you catch the common cold which is likely here you could take Vitamin C. It reduces the length and duration of the common cold, if taken and absorbed every two hours. Get some lemons.
The last time for me I was to say the least a little surprised to hear it was just the common cold from the doc. It went as suddenly as it came. |
